Connecting to wireless networks that i have previously connected to times out, both with network manager, and iwconfig.
I have tried on two networks i have previously connected to and both time out.
What is interesting is that i am able to connect if i set a static ip, but i cannot reach any addresses, not even 192.168.1.1
SOLVED:
Issue was determined to be the ath9k module, fixed it by running:
modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Hi,
Same here! I will deep into the logs for a detailed explanation, but is hard to be in the "net" without network.

Simmilar problem here.
As of yesterday evening, I have been unable to reach the Internet through wifi via the very same access points that worked flawlessly a day before.
Wicd reports that I am, in fact, connected to the AP, but when I ping the router, I get:
PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.0.199 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.0.199 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
From 192.168.0.199 icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable
At first I thought this was a default gateway issue, but typing route results in:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
default 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 302 0 0 wlan0
192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 302 0 0 wlan0
which I think is normal.
My girlfriend's netbook, also running Arch, though not as up to date, connects flawleslly.
Could it be some update in the past few days that has caused this?
Any ideas?
EDIT: I should also point out that wired works fine, plugged into the same router, which is what I'm using to post this.

So i just did a completely fresh install, the only package besides base i installed was wireless_tools and dhcpd times out when broadcasting for a lease.
Everything works fine on wired connetion, it's just wireless that has issues.

@seniorsassycat: Which network are you trying to connect to, FBQ30 or linksys? linksys is WPA encrypted, wireless_tools won't do for that, you need to use wpa_supplicant.
Also, all of you haven't provided to possibly most important info: which wireless card (output of lspci -nn)?

I think you guys are chasing different problems here. Once we prove that, I'll suggest one of you start a different thread.
alfonsodg: Your network seems to be working okay. How are you trying to connect to the protected APs? I cannot tell if they are WEP or WPA. Do you know? Are the routers under your control?
Fragasaurus: What are the output of ip addr and of ip route ? Are you trying to use wired and wireless to the same router simultaneously?

Hi, My network works fine because AndroidAP has not security, meanwhile 4714046 has WEP . The problem was after an update (about 30 hours ago and in the morning today) and reboot.
Currently i am using Ubuntu Linux in the same laptop for surf, is not a configuration issue seems a kernel or package failure.

I'm connecting to FBQ30, I was able to connect to it in the install environment, and in my old install without adding any extra drivers.

Hmm, I've seen more than one report with ath9k not working with kernel 3.2. You could try loading the module with disabled hardware encryption. Check with "modinfo ath9k" to see which option disables it.

Got it. What method are you using to set the WEP password? The network daemon ? Wicd? NetworkManager? Did you roll your own? Do you do it by hand?
Are you using a hex key, or are you using a pass phrase ?
How do you get a network address? Is it DHCP? If so, is it dhcpcd or dhclient?

fixed it by running
# modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1
Will this need to be ran at every boot? Is there a way to make it permanent, and is there a way to check if this option is set? Getting wireless to work has been difficult because sometimes running the command doesnt seem to be enough, first i have to run modprobe ath9k -r to remove the module, then modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Just to add my 2cents..
Kernel update broke my wlan0 (ath9k pci). eth0 still worked. iwconfig wouldnt associate with the network. Downgraded to linux-3.2.1-1 again.

I believe at the end of your "kernel" line in your grub config file for your Arch Linux entry you can add "ath9k.nohwcrypt=1". It would be similar to this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … and_line_2
So following that link you'd replace "modprobe.blacklist=pcspkr,ipv6" as in the Wiki's example with "ath9k.nohwcrypt=1".
Even though Glinx's solution worked for me, perhaps yours would have worked as well.

Thanks for editing the OP to mention the workaround, that made it easy for me.
As for setting module options permanently, I would usually do it via modprobe.conf:
#
# /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
#
options ath9k nohwcrypt=1

Hmm, at first when I read your post I thought that this method would still be inferior to setting the kernel option as a boot parameter, but then I read in the Wiki that if you disable a module via modprobe.conf or some other .conf file in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory it is possible later to manually load the module if necessary... does the same logic apply to individual kernel option settings for modules?
By the same token, is it impossible to manually change module options post-boot if the settings are made in the boot config file instead? If so, I would say the method you recommended is superior.

Same problem here guys. All wifi interfaces (ath9k) stopped working. I connect to my AP (my router in my house/WEP), everything goes fine, networkmanager gives me notice that i am connected.
But i can't even ping my gateway/ap/router.
I tried that modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1, and then i can ping ap, but can't ping behind it (there are two hops to the internet). So the only node i can ping with that workaround is my ap/router/gateway.
Any ideas? Should i create own topic? (it seems to be the same issue)

The above posted solution works also fine for me. Now I can finally get an IP address again

This forum saved my day. I was about to remove my ath9k and put the crappy intel one back.
I noticed a very strange thing. I'm logging all my system updates. On Friday I did the update to Linux 3.2.2 and then shutdown. On Sunday I rebooted and was connected to my home AP without any problem. Updated few KDE related packages. Back to the office on Monday... no WiFi!
Anyway it works now... Thanks a lot!

Downgrade your kernel if it was working before... I'm guessing that this change happened after you did a kernel upgrade, right?
# cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
# pacman -U linux-previous-vers.pkg.tar.gz
# pacman -U linux-headers-previous-vers.pkg.tar.gz
