HP 2730p external Monitor problems Intel GMA 4500

Hi,
So far I'm really happy with Archlinux on my Laptop (HP 2730p), but I can't get it to work properly with my external monitor

The monitor (HF287) is detected and connected just fine, but that's about it

According to the OSD of the monitor it's running with 1680*1050 Pixel (native resolution 1920*1200), no matter what resolution I choose using xrandr or the Systemsettings GUI, but only shows a 1280*1024 area of the actual screen, stretched into 1680*1050. The rest is out of the screen (adjusting the monitor doesn't change anything)

If I set the the monitor to its native resolution (1920*1200) I only get a image like this:
69f8056f2898b24965ba5367e263c5a0010f68573348c7daa1c3fb95d831f2762g.jpg
This is the external monitor with the default LXDE Background Image and a window reaching into the monitor just a bit

The same problem occurs in Ubuntu (tested with a liveCD)
However it works fine using Windows7

Xrandr output

I have no xorg.conf or any file for the monitor on /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
extra/xf86-video-intel is installed and up to date

However, I've tried following 10-monitor.conf (unsuccessfully):

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Card0"
    Driver "intel"
    VendorName "Intel Corporation"
BoardName "Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller"
    BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
 EndSection
$lspci |grep -i graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

I hope I have provided enough information and someone can help me to fix this problem.

Re: HP 2730p external Monitor problems Intel GMA 4500

any ideas?

It doesn't matter how the desktop is set (clone, stacked, horizontal) [hint from the other thread, suggested by the admin]

I've also tried connecting another Monitor (Fujitsu Siemens S7, 1280*1024), but using this one I only see the OSD telling me that the mode is not supported - no matter what resolution or frequency I choose

Re: HP 2730p external Monitor problems Intel GMA 4500

Sorry for reviving this thread from the dead, but I found a workaround and wanted to share it:

As mentioned on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/796030 this is a known(?) bug with Kernel versions newer than 2.6.34.
So after downgrading to this version I was able to use the full resolution of the screen, but with a ~ 200pixel wide stripe missing between the monitors (External left of internal => virtual Screen of 3200*1200) and a equally sized stripe of the most left screen on the most right side. This stripe was only missing for the screen, but not for the mousecursor => If I wanted to press a button I had to press it ~200pixel right of it

(But I was able to use Composite Effects in Compiz)

This was resolved by disabling Composite in xorg.conf

not the full xorg.conf

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
