[SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

I installed the Broadcom bcm970015 as I described in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135034.
However, a 'pacman -Syu' and a restart later and now although 'modprobe crystalhd' will apparently load the module, no application seem to be able to access it anymore, and the device '/dev/crystalhd' does no longer exist. I went into the 'driver' and the 'linux_lib' dir that I had left from compiling it back then, and just did another 'sudo make install' in each, but that didn't help.
Any ideas would be appreciated as I'm clueless of what to do next. Googling the 'cant open crystalhd device' messages from VLC and the example program included with the crystalhd driver will only take me to mac/xbmc sites and the stuff there doesn't seem to match my problem or be of any help, as far as I was able to see.

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

Well it turns out for some reason I suddenly had an old crystalhd module installed. Don't ask me where it even came from, I have no idea oO.
I just noticed this because I saw dmesg giving

Loading crystalhd 0.9.27

which is bad. After re-installing the driver, I now get

Loading crystalhd v3.10.0
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: Starting Device:0x1615
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: irq 45 for MSI/MSI-X
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64

again as it should be. And my /dev/crystalhd device is back.
However, programs STILL cannot use the card again -.- What I get now from dmesg is this:

crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: Opening new user[0] handle
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: [crystalhd_flea_download_fw]: step 7. Error bit occured. RetVal:c00018
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: [crystalhd_flea_download_fw]: step 7. Firmware image signature failure.
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: Firmware Download Failure!! - -1
crystalhd 0000:04:00.0: Closing user[0] handle via ioctl with mode 1c200

Although I copied over the firmware binary file too (well I did that automatically by sudo make install for the driver + lib).
I'm stumped why this happens now as I'm still using the same firmware and driver I used in the very beginning when everything actually worked (and before pacman -Syu). How can the image signature fail if the files are exactly the same.. Time to google more.

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

When I build the driver, I just noticed on running "make" I get:

  Building modules, stage 2.
  MODPOST 1 modules
WARNING: modpost: Found 2 section mismatch(es).

Anyone know what this warning means or how to fix it?

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

Ok, after I simply rebooted I no longer get the firmware-related error messages and the device can be opened fine.
However, I get this error in VLC:

corrupt module: /home/dood/crystal-hd/vlc/modules/codec/.libs/libpng_plugin.so

Time to try and rebuild VLC I guess..

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

.."worked", no more errors in VLC. However, VLC doesn't give a picture anymore now.
Seems video-dependant. With another video it actually works fine now. However, VLC will play the problematic video just fine too if crystalhd is not used. hmm Although the video in question should have the correct format to be handled by crystalhd.

Edit: Got "corrupted firmware/fw_download" errors again after I rebooted. I rebooted AGAIN and it's fine again. It just seems random, so if it doesn't work for you, reboot until it does. =P

New edit:
See this thread for the "random" firmware signature error:

There's an 'edit' button for a reason, please don't bump your own thread repeatedly by posting replies to yourself.

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

oh sorry, I only edited when there was no real "update" done, I thought any sort of real update on the issue in the thread should be done as a reply, even if the one resolving it is the same person as the one posting, because otherwise someone interested in the thread may just see it disappear and not notice that it was actually updated?
Example: I search the forum and find thread X about a specific topic, and it describes an unresolved problem which I have too so I refresh the forum to see if there has been a new reply to it. Now if the person who wrote the last posting does not reply but simply edits just because it is the same person and not a different one, I'd miss it, because I won't notice the update, right?  Ie I'd have to keep the actual thread open in a tab without even knowing if it will ever get updated, instead of simply refreshing the sub-forum and observe the 'last reply' date/name and the top threads in it.

Re: [SOLVED] After '-Syu' CrystalHD dev suddenly gone?

The assumption is that such a person would post as well. In general, if no-one has responded to your post, its safe to edit.

More specifically, its best to have done everything shown above before first posting so as to obviate the need for multiple posts at all.
