My college administration thought it wise to block ALL protocols apart from http, https and ftp.
Now, with the GIT protocol blocked, I am unable to clone any repository and hence install many applications.
Yes, I know, most allow a http(s) link for such cases too. However, I don't know why but the https link always times out.
For example: I was trying to install regetron from the AUR today. It clones the git repository and compiles the code form there. So, I edited the PKGBUILD to clone using the https address:
https://git.gitorious.org/regetron/regetron.git
that I got from their website. However, this always times out and I am unable to clone the repository. What should I do?

I just tried it on my computer and it works without problems. I think this is something you should rather ask your college administration.

Then I guess they don't allow any git traffic to go through..
Guess that means another visit to my network administrator.
