Quake Live tells me I need to open that port, if I have a firewall. How can I do this with Arch? Thanks.

This probably has more to do with your wireless router, if you have one. You will have to turn on port forwarding and forward that port.

I tried that, not sure if I did it correctly, but still, when I used Ubuntu (and before, when I used Windows 7), I didn't have to do any of those things, only when I moved to Arch this started happening.

Ok, so you have no firewall rules enabled.
Try opening the browser you use to launch quake live via cli and check for any errors/output when the quake live startup fails.
