nvm, chose wired

I have moved my pc, and need to use wifi for internet access, the only adapter I have is a us robotics usb adapter (802.11g, model USRXX5422) is there a way to run it natively (I haven't been able to google anything up so far) or will it work with ndiswrapper?

Edit: or should hot plug autodetect it?

Edit2: I also saw a program called driverloader by linuxant, seems like something similar to ndiswrapper.

Re: nvm, chose wired

Try it an see what happens? Plug it in then post the output of "dmesg | tail"

PS It looks like Liuxant DriverLoader supports it, which means NDISWrapper should as well, assuming you have the windows inf/sys files.

o, it isn't detected by hotplug, and there is nothing that could be it in dmesg | tail output I'll try ndiswrapper later

Re: nvm, chose wired

hmm, it seems it should work with prism54 (prism54.org)  I'll try that before I try ndiswrapper

sorry for the multiple posts, but it is supported by wlan g also, so how would I set it up to run using that? the wiki isn't to clear.

Re: nvm, chose wired

Bear in mind that the stable prism54 code does not support USB - for that, you'll need to try some early development stuff available here. This is what you can expect:

This is starting to be functionnal code. With a naked access point (no wpa, no wep), you're likely to be able to connect to the outside for USB. dhcp is not tested, there may be issues with it related to the madwifi stack ; assigning the ip statically is a sure bet. Also, the leds won't work. This is expected. Maybe someone should make them blink...

Re: nvm, chose wired

I don't think that will work. wlan-ng is for the 802.11b prism2/2.5/3 chipsets - it doesn't work with prism54. Can I ask why you think your adapter is supported? I'd be only too happy to be wrong. smile

for the record:
wlan-ng stands for "next gen" or something to that effect and has nothing to do with 802.11g - for all the 802.11 standards, the transmission speed isn't a real factor to the driver - there is no special setup for 802.11g or 802.11b or 802.11a
