How can I mount Mac shares on Arch?

How can I mount Mac shares on Arch?

I am tired of ftp-ing files all the time to and from the physics dept. here at school. I want to mount my share here at home so I can work with files and data without the hassle of getting and putting files on the ftp server all the time.

I don't think there really is a good solution to this. NetATalk is a server app and its client app is no longer in development. The main campus firewall blocks samba, possibly NFS too.

Re: How can I mount Mac shares on Arch?

there was some talk about an ssh sftp share mount program not too long ago. I don't know what the forum topic was...maybe someone else remembers...

It was a kernel module, that when loaded, allowed you to mount a remote ssh/sftp share, just like an nfs or samba share on your local network..

it provided nearly seamless, if a bit slower, shares over longer distances.

kinduv cool. smile

It's more than talk - it's shfs, and you can get it in the AUR here - read the comments first.

Re: How can I mount Mac shares on Arch?

Thanks, so far so good except that I cant mount my share as a non-root user. The docs on the shfs site say this:

Is it possible to allow ordinary users to mount shfs shares?

Yes, though it is not enabled by default. Just set suid (chmod u+s) attribute on /usr/bin/shfsmount and /usr/bin/shfsumount.

but it still isn't working.

shfsmount: /mnt/shfs/my_dir: Operation not permitted

Quoting the manpage:

User must be owner (or member of group) of mount_point and must have write access for that directory.

So, changing the ownership of /mnt/shfs/my_dir could be an idea.
