Dynamic light-weight local proxy - substitute for tinyproxy?

At my current work place all internet access is through a proxy URL - port 8080. Instead of changing proxy settings for my browsers and various internet enabled applications separately, I set up and used this script with tinyproxy (run post-up with netcfg).

An unclean shutdown just hosed that setup, which I've gotten working again, but now I wonder if there's a better solution than relying on someone's script, a proxy server which can dynamically adjust external proxy settings. Squid and Polipo don't seem to have that sort of functionality built-in (based on my own reading), and those two are the only ones in our wiki (and the main results in google). Anyone runs a similar setup on his/her machine (most likely laptop)?
