[SOLVED] Updating/flashing BIOS in Linux?

I need to update BIOS for my computer. What can I use to do this on Linux?
The reason I need to do this is because there is a known problem with current BIOS that prevents me from using 8GB for memory.

From manufacturer's site, I downloaded AWDFLASH and bios .BIN file.

(I have SP35P2 from Shuttle)

Or.. How can I create DOS bootable image?

I found the easisest way is to make a bootable FreeDOS using Unetbootin as per the wiki above.
However, if that AWDFLASH is a Windows GUI only flasher (i.e. not DOS) then you may be out of luck. If so, check if flashrom will work with your machine. If not then you might be out of luck but sometimes some manufacturer's have a hot key setup that enables you to flash from a USB with a special hotkey during startup. You will need to google around to see of this is possible.

Tried to make bootable FreeDOS USB, but never was able to boot.

I got it working in the end is Flashrom.

For the record, some bios allow you to load the update from a FAT formatted usb flash disk and you don't need any extra utility, the bios already includes everything needed to flash the update.

You could've booted FreeDOS by using memdisk from the local hard drive, just make sure you had your ROM files on there somewhere so you could use them.
If flashrom worked, then one less need for all that.

Hopefully I will not have touch the bios for awhile.. at least on this computer

Glad your got your problem solved.  What really sucks are vendors who provide windows-only bios updated.  Like OCZ... to flash the firmware on my Vertex 4, I need a to do so from within windows
