[SOLVED) No network with either wired or wireless

My network on my Arch laptop seems to be not working. It was intermittent yesterday and now doesn't work at all. The router works both wirelessly and plugged in - tested with another (windows 7) computer. The intermittent problem was present on two different ISPs as well, so I am pretty sure it is not a service issue at the ISP end.

The networkmanager applet indicates that the router is connected. I tried a few things from this forum to no avail, and always reverted any changes so it seems that I did not do anything out of the ordinary. I tried to do a -Syu update but it failed mid-way due not being able to access the mirrors.

How can I check whether this is hardware or software settings problem?

Re: [SOLVED) No network with either wired or wireless

Thanks for your reply. Looks like I cannot post it due the network being what it is and now I cannot even copy the results onto an USB stick for transferring them onto this other computer for posting...

Needless to say that the USB did not have any problems earlier.

It also seems that I can't get a Knoppix live cd to work either.

Re: [SOLVED) No network with either wired or wireless

Okay, the Ethernet show that there is no carrier.  Is it plugged into the router?  Are the link lights on at either / both ends?
Until ip addr sees a carrier, wired things are not going to work.

On to the wireless...
If you perform an iwlist scan
does the system see any APs ?

Re: [SOLVED) No network with either wired or wireless

Thanks again for your time. Looks like I managed to get a solution to this problem through a very unusual route: I had problems with syslog-ng failing in the boot process, then I had the aforementioned USB issues and decided to look into that first.

Turned out that the partition was full and therefore syslog-ng failed, and USBs could not mount. The solution was to do a

pacman -Sc

I feel a bit stupid now after asking these questions, but hopefully this thread helps others as well.

The problem is [SOLVED] for me at least.
