Only VLC is functional

I have the latest build of Arch Linux installed (x86_64). I am somehow not successful with multimedia. It is not an ALSA or OSS issue as on boot , I am able to hear sound and in VLC all the mp3 files plays beautifully. I am a big fan of lightweight players like exaile , Deadbeef and am quite used to it . Sadly , When I click the app , it appears to open , but disappears from the task bar. Same is the case with exaile, clementine. In SMPlayer , I get Error Code :127 Missing library file libtdl.so.7 . I have reinstalled smplayer both from AUR and the Standard, not successful. What could be the issue?

Re: Only VLC is functional

Was that supposed to be libltdl.so.7?  If so that belongs to the libltdl package which is part of core.  Check that you have that installed.

If there was no typo, you'll have to track down what package provides that library.

Re: Only VLC is functional

Yes libltdl is installed and is the latest version. With respect to posting the output of dmesg , I am afraid I did some googling to see how to copy from a text editor like nano to clipboard and then to copy it into the forum webpage. I guess that in itself is a time consuming affair which led me to utils like xclip , but I am not able to use it successfully. The traditional Ctrl+shift+A , Ctrl+shift+C and Ctrl + shift+V does not work!

Any hints?

Re: Only VLC is functional

I may be missing something, but (provided it isn't too long to be suitable to be put on the forum) then you can just highlight the text in a terminal, then paste to the forum input box with the middle mouse button.

If, however, it is long, then do use a pastebin and link to the output.

Re: Only VLC is functional

1) Open a XTerminal of your choice
2) Type dmesg >> dmesg.txt
3) Open dmesg.txt with a texteditor of your choise (e.g. Leafpad, Kate, gedit)
4) Post it at pastebin (e.g. http://pastebin.com/)

Beside this the output of Deadbeef would be interesting when you launch it inside a terminal.
