Hi everybody,
I have a little question.
My pictures partition just got broken and, luckily, I have a backup partition on another disk which I maintain with rsnapshot (weekly and monthly).
Since I saw the disk failing three weeks after the first error, I am not even sure that last backups are 100% correct: since this partition is, actually, a lv in a vg I found out that the lvm snapshots where failing since around 3 weeks.
So to keep it short...I want to first copy good files from the broken partition, compare them with backup and, if they match, skip them. Files not present in broken disk but present in backup will be copied.
My question is if there's a smart way to do the following to restore my files:
copy all good files from broken disk to a new one
verifiy that the good ones match with the backed up ones (crc check or similar digital signature method)
for the files not copied from broken disk but present on backup, copy them according to correct folder of course
Is there some tool around or should I code a script to do that?
Any hints?
Thanks in advance!!
