update failure

Immediately after getting the base installation done and rebooting, I can get core, extra and community synchronized with pacman -Syy but when attempting to do the first update, its failing to do so stating errors and cannot complete the update.

The report states that tzselect, zdump and zic exist in /usr/sbin.

Why would errors happen on a clean initial install?

My system is an AMD Athlon 32bit
