Hi, I am using netcfg to connect to college wifi to access internet and i can access internet in CLI applications (pacman, clam), firefox and thunderbird but online account settings, gwidder and other gnome apps cannot access internet.
I also installed networkmanager some days before but then i uninstalled it.

and what have you tried in order to fix this problem ?

I don't have an idea what is causing it and i also googled it whole day but could not find a hint. that's why i have created this new thread. till now i have done nothing.

It might be that Gnome apps rely on NetworkManager for knowing wheter they are connected to the Internet or not. For example, evolution has a terminal switch option to disable checking for network connectivity and force its status as "online". I had to resort to it when I needed to disable NetworkManager for working purposes in my lab.
Having said that, when you had NetworkManager, did Gnome apps work?

It was working when i was using netcfg before networkmanager. So, i think after uninstalling networkmanager it made some changes to system which is causing problem.

check your pacman logs to see what you installed/upgraded, your dmesg and xorg logs and report if anything is amiss.

I don't thinks these logs have anything relevant. I tried evolution and it is working!!

Did you restart your system at any time during the process? If not, that's probably worth a try. Gnome may be caching the network session.
If it is working now, there may have been an expiry.

What do u mean by expiry? and why only gnome evolution is working and not online-accounts, gwibber, and pidgin

Well I'm just guessing and trying to give ideas as to what to look at, but on thinking about it, I think I'm talking nonsense so ignore what I wrote above.
Sorry.

Does your college use a proxy? Not all applications (like Gwibber, last time I checked, which was admittedly a while ago) play nicely with proxies, despite your settings.

My college provides DHCP connection to us but i am using static (manually assigning IP) to get better speed.

I think i have found the problem. I logged into gnome using root and it started working. So, how can i do it without logging as root.

So, now i know the problem, any suggestion on how to solve it?

Don't do that. It creates havoc on the network. If it were my network, I would block your MAC.
Why do you think you "get better speed" with a static address?

they give very slow speed in our hostels so i have assigned an IP address of one our lab systems. Obviously, i always check if the IP it is free or not. Can anyone give me the suggestion for my problem.

Since you are setting a static address without going through DHCP, I am sure you set your gateway and domain name servers up correctly by hand also. (Warning, there may be some sarcasm in that statement. YMMV)

Create a new user and log in as them? To check it isn't just your normal user that's broken.
