I seem to be stuck in a vicious circle here. I am trying to set up Xarchiver because when I try to extract packages I get the error "No suitable archive manager found" It seems as though there is no archive managers that I can install with pacman. So the other way is to extract the downloaded xarchiver package into a folder and run makepkg and then use the resulting pacman. Of course in that process I have to extract the package......
Which is an obvious problem because if I can't extract the package and I need an archive manager to extract the package but I have to extract the xarchiver package to install it....
Well you get it.

Xarchiver was deprecated a while ago in favour of file-roller.
extra/file-roller 3.4.2-1 (gnome-extra) [installed]
Archive manipulator for GNOME

you can install file-roller from [extra] or just download the PKGBUILD from xarchiver and then use makepkg.

No, you don't need an archive manager to extract a package.
You really should ask yourself if Arch is the distro for you. Turning to the forums to solve every issue you encounter must be as tiring for you as it is draining for the community...

xarchiver is nothing but a gui on top of CLI functions like tar, gzip unzip etc.... You need to seriously read up on makepkg, AUR, ABS and in general about Arch Linux.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

I ran into the same "No suitable archive manager found" error today. Just in case anyone finds this thread on Google, the xarchiver package is now available in in the community repo (https://archlinux.org/packages/communit … xarchiver/), so I was able to fix this with:
sudo pacman -S xarchiver unziphttps://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Archiv … ompression was also helpful.
