I have been using the same internet configuration for a long time, but it suddenly started working terribly. It is awfully intermittent. I don't really know how to troubleshoot this since I haven't changed anything.
I don't use netcfg; my config is:
interface=eth0
address=192.168.1.4
netmask=255.255.255.0
broadcast=192.168.1.255
gateway=192.168.1.1
The output of ifconfig is:
$ ifconfig
eth0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 metric 1
inet 192.168.1.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255
inet6 fe80::21a:4dff:fe55:aae3 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x20<link>
ether 00:1a:4d:55:aa:e3 txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
RX packets 160935 bytes 52038065 (49.6 MiB)
RX errors 0 dropped 2 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 204185 bytes 32214182 (30.7 MiB)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0
device interrupt 44 base 0x2000
lo: flags=73<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING> mtu 16436 metric 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0
inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 scopeid 0x10<host>
loop txqueuelen 0 (Local Loopback)
RX packets 3208 bytes 475706 (464.5 KiB)
RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 3208 bytes 475706 (464.5 KiB)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0
There are other computers in the network which have no internet problems whatsoever, so this is not an ISP problem.
Thanks

What kind of network controller do you have? And what driver does the kernel use?
( Try # lspci -k )

@scar: thanks for your help, however, I solved this merely by changing my network's static IP address.
I really don't understand how come that was the problem, since I have been using the same one for years, and there is no new computer in the network... Whatever.
