[Solved] Can you use a laptop as a wireless bridge?

I have a desktop with no wireless card and a laptop, could I connect the laptop to the desktop with an ethernet wire and get an internet connection?

Cool, the article says to use two network cards, as long as I have two interfaces (eth0 and wlan0) it should work right?

Of course, you'll have to tweak the procedure described in the wiki article to your specific setup, but it should work.

That wasn't OP, I'm still working it out. The wiki says that you must use either a crossover cable or a gigabite network card. How can I tell if my card is gigabite?
After following each step I wasnt able to ping either computer from the other.

You would need a static IP on the wired side.
You can give dhcp address on the wired side.
But to get them to cross from wlan0 to eth0, you need to setup just a simple masquerade rule with iptables.

1:

lsusb

or

lspci

to find out, what kind of networkcard you have.

2:
Get a crossover cable

3:
Get a switch / hub (and use standard cables)

Re: [Solved] Can you use a laptop as a wireless bridge?

Thanks for the help, I found an old router and set up a wireless bridge, so I found a  solution. Should I mark this as solved?

If it's solved for you ... yeah, definitely. Just edit your first post.
