PHP and MySQL?

Hi all. I was trying to install WordPress on my web server. When I try to run the configuration tool I get the following error:

Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL which is required for WordPress.

Does this mean PHP needs to be recompiled with MySQL support?
