Just installed a gigabit ethernet adapter under Arch Linux.
Is there a performance difference in having a MTU size of 9000 versus 9014?
I chose 9014 to match the MTU size on my laptop.
Thanks for the clarification and answer!

What will your gigabit interface be used for? The usefulness of the mtu setting will largely depend on the other network equipment it interacts with. In most cases, just sticking with the default 1500 mtu is the way to go.

jdancer,
don't choose that value, sooner or later you will be having troubles and probably it will take time to discover where they come from.

I use 4k jumbo frames on my network, not 9k. You need to arrive on a value by empirical testing, not just selecting one. See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Jumbo_Frames

graysky,
very nice and useful wiki entry. BTW, I also arrived to 4K frames after empirical testing.
