[SOLVED] System freezes on reboot

Hello,

For past day or so, my system would freeze on reboot. It doesn't show any error. Here is dmesg log and failed errors.

I blacklisted e1000e as suggested by Thinkpad T420 wiki but it didn't work. I am not sure what to look into.

 dmesg | grep failed
[ 0.329410] pci0000:00: ACPI _OSC request failed (AE_SUPPORT), returned control mask: 0x0d
[ 0.493261] [drm] MTRR allocation failed. Graphics performance may suffer.
[ 0.493916] [drm:intel_dsm_platform_mux_info] *ERROR* MUX INFO call failed
uname -a
Linux arch 3.3.7-1-ck #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 16 02:08:22 MDT 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
kernel /vmlinuz-linux-ck root=/dev/sda5 ro quite splash elevator=bfq i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 drm.vblankoffdelay=1

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] System freezes on reboot

Did you tried booting stock official kernel? Did you tried without additional boot options?

Also 3.3.7 is kinda outdated, what's the reason for that? When was the last time you ran pacman -Syu?

Re: [SOLVED] System freezes on reboot

I have to use pre-3.4 kernel because of recent regression in 3.4-3.5rc7 which increases system temp by 10C and doubles power usage to 20W. I am basically stuck with 3.3 for long time.

My system is fully updated otherwise.

I can try ck without boot options and stock with and without boot options. I have been using these options for about a year without any problems on both ck and stock.

I am also trying https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 9#p1052099 if it helps.

Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] System freezes on reboot

Plymouth was the culprit. I removed it from kernel boot line and I am able to reboot and shutdown again.

No idea what Plymouth is but I'm guessing I don't have it on my system.  Can you clarify?

Re: [SOLVED] System freezes on reboot

Plymouth is just a theme for boot process, so that, you don't have to see commands. It shows you, for example, Arch Linux logo and booting goes in behind. I am pretty sure you don't have it in your system.

Mux Info Call is innocuous error caused by Nvidia cards. I am not sure by ACPI errors.
