Intel 2200 Chipset Connect Issues

I installed the ipw2200-fw, and then removed/added the module as root - which shows up when i run $ lsmod.

Initially I couldn't even see the card, and that was fixed with the fw being installed, and the modules added.

I tried setting up the connection manually, but nothing I did with netcfg or wpa_supplicant worked at all.

I installed various gui interfaces like NetworkManager (which I think is now running , , , ), as well as wicd, etc.

None of them could connect to the card at all or see any info about it / APs / etc.

I installed wifi-select and it was able to generate and save a config file for me with netcfg.

When i run

$ sudo netcfg profile_name

I get this error:

n180211: driver does not support athentication/association or connect commands

then the connection fails. Can anyone offer suggestions as to the next steps I should take in getting my wifi card configured?

Are there programs like network manager that I should remove or entries from /etc/rc.conf?

my config generated is:

CONNECTION="wireless"
ESSID="name"
INTERFACE="eth1"
DESCRIPTION="Automatically generated profile"
SCAN="yes"
IP="dhcp"
TIMEOUT="10"
SECURITY="wpa"
KEY="password"

and my AP is WPA2

DISCLAIMER - I have been through the wiki for the past 2 days and have searched the forums for everything with ipw2200 or intel 2200.

Add WPA_DRIVER="wext" to the profile. If that won't work, you'll need to connect manually with wpa_supplicant with debug output.
