Mount points keep changing in autofs

I am trying to get auto mounting to work in KDE with limited success. I have autofs running somewhat successfully but the mount point of my USB drive keeps changing so I have to keep adding entries like this to /etc/autofs/auto.misc

usbstickb -fstype=auto,async,nodev,nosuid,umask=000 :/dev/sdb1
usbstickc -fstype=auto,async,nodev,nosuid,umask=000 :/dev/sdc1
usbstickd -fstype=auto,async,nodev,nosuid,umask=000 :/dev/sdd1

I'm hoping there's a better solution than adding all devices to this file. Any ideas?

Re: Mount points keep changing in autofs

According to this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … ge_Devices

"If you have an up-to-date system with the standard Arch kernel and a modern Desktop Environment your device should just show up on your desktop, no need to open a console. "

That means that Arch with KDE should automatically work? I'm not seeing that, so I'm playing with udev but still nothing is showing up in KDE.

Re: Mount points keep changing in autofs

How are you starting KDE? Do you use KDM, another display (login) manager, or just startx?

For slim or startx, please post your .xinitrc

Re: Mount points keep changing in autofs

I'm starting KDE as per the documentation's recommended way: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KDE

Starting KDM through /etc/inittab [recommended]

Edit /etc/inittab and comment out:

#id:3:initdefault:

[...]

#x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/xdm -nodaemon

Then uncomment:

id:5:initdefault:

[...]

x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon

Here's my /etc/inittab:

[root@arch ~]# cat /etc/inittab
#
# /etc/inittab
#

# Runlevels:
# 0 Halt
# 1(S) Single-user
# 2 Not used
# 3 Multi-user
# 4 Not used
# 5 X11
# 6 Reboot

## Only one of the following two lines can be uncommented!
# Boot to console
#id:3:initdefault:
# Boot to X11
id:5:initdefault:

rc::sysinit:/etc/rc.sysinit
rs:S1:wait:/etc/rc.single
rm:2345:wait:/etc/rc.multi
