Wordpress and MySQLi (not MySQL)

I am trying to set up a new and improved website for my self, including wordpress. It seems as though it doesn't like the PHP MySQLi extension.

Has anyone else gotten this to work? Am I stupid? Do you recommend some thing besides WordPress?

EDIT: Some more ?'s

Whats the difference between mysql and mysqli? Why is php from current/extra wherever it is compiled with only one enabled?

Re: Wordpress and MySQLi (not MySQL)

mysqli is the "mysql improved" php mysql interface. It is supposedly higher performance, and allows for some features of mysql 4.x

I haven't used it myself though. *shrug*

edit: I saw your post here too..was this one before or after your fix there?

Re: Wordpress and MySQLi (not MySQL)

This one was after. I was still curious about everything. I don't think I should expect php to ever be compiled with MySQL now that MySQLi is out. I guess I'll have to wait for the WordPress devs to update their DB code if I ever want to use it.
