[Solved] READ FPDMA QUEUED (DRDY ERR) -- Toshiba MK2555GSX HDD Error

I'm afraid that my Hard Drive's gonna be failing soon, but I'm not sure.  I don't know what a READ FPDMA QUEUED MEDIA ERROR means, so I'm goggling it right now somewhat apprehensively.

here's the error(s) as smartctl recorded them

SMART Error Log Version: 1
ATA Error Count: 2978 (device log contains only the most recent five errors)
	CR = Command Register [HEX]
	FR = Features Register [HEX]

	CL = Cylinder Low Register [HEX]
	CH = Cylinder High Register [HEX]
	DH = Device/Head Register [HEX]
	DC = Device Command Register [HEX]
	ER = Error register [HEX]
	ST = Status register [HEX]
Powered_Up_Time is measured from power on, and printed as
DDd+hh:mm:SS.sss where DD=days, hh=hours, mm=minutes,
SS=sec, and sss=millisec. It "wraps" after 49.710 days.

So here's the problem as I experienced it.  I can't actually remember whether my drive first began taking a hit on performance or if it started spitting out errors first.  I had to re-install Arch Linux using the new install media, there's a real learning curve to get from Grub legacy to Grub2 (but GRUB2's pretty groovy, so it's all good) so I don't have any of the logs and stuff that would have the actual error messages in them.  I'm currently extracting my last backup that I made just a day or two ago so that I can post a copy of the actual error message(s).  I googled 'READ FPDMA' and here's a post that I found extremely interesting.... and scary

This is a comment for the above post.

Re: [Solved] READ FPDMA QUEUED (DRDY ERR) -- Toshiba MK2555GSX HDD Error

My /var partition died.  So I went ahead and got a new laptop.  Problem solved... sort of.
