Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

That's a problem I encountered too. Obviously a bug in ccsm.
Just set them using dconf-editor...

Have anyone looked at MyUnity and whether it works on arch? Looks like a neat tool for configuring Unity.

I tried it once on Ubuntu, but it didn't suit my taste.

I have no information about your system, no logs, no software versions... as we speak in Soviet Russia, "telepathists on vacation". smile Please, read this.
Basically, you can tell us information about your videocard, drivers and publish xorg logs somewhere in pastebin.

From your post history, Probably it's because you use catalyst (I have similar issue long time ago). Have you try the open source one?

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

yeah I'm just not sure which system info to provide... I mean that sort of crash seems like it could be anything tongue

I do use catalyst, the open source driver isn't much of an option as I use 3d quite a lot (I have tried it, it wasn't good enough!) I use catalyst-legacy from the repo found on these forums with xorg kept downgraded to 1.11 (I couldn't help notice the Unity repo has it's own Xorg components... Maybe they're conflicting with the ones I have installed that don't get replaced with ubuntu versions?)

everything else in Arch is all up to date, and I'm using the Unity/Unity-extra repo (I did once try building it from the git, but hit the same problem so decided it's easier/faster to just test from the repo!)

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

There is a legacy driver for Xorg 1.12 avaiable already.
I think the aur package was called "catalyst-total-hd234k", maybe that one works?

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

Installed right today.
I had just an issue.

It is strange, my notebook (an Acer 5315 with Intel graphics) runs compiz, with its own decorator without problems, while on my desktop i don't get the window decoration (Unity works like a charm, i used alt + left click to move windows) and installing metacity doesn't fix that. But if i install the metacity-ubuntu package from AUR it works well. The only thing is that if I want to change the metacity theme i have to change it via gconf-editor. System settings and Advanced settings change everything except for that. It's not a huge problem, because I generally change the theme one every 2/3 months (if i find one that fits my needs), but is annoying.

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

There's a repo for the catalyst legacy driver:

[catalyst-hd234k]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/ca … 234k/$arch

More info can be found on the ati catalyst archwiki.

Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:

|--- cmake/CompizGSettings.cmake        2012-07-29 03:23:28 +0000
|+++ cmake/CompizGSettings.cmake        2012-09-01 07:19:22 +0000
--------------------------

EDIT: Also, do you have any thoughts about disappeared indicator panel shadow? There is no bug report on launchpad, so it seems to be Arch-specific...

The Compiz patch bug should be fixed. As for the panel shadow, that's probably a bug in Compiz. I'm able to produce it in both Fedora and openSUSE.

I still haven't had a chance to package libreoffice-extension-menubar yet...have lots of homework smile

It should work perfectly fine if it works in Ubuntu 12.10. I'm not sure if it has been ported to GSettings yet.

This will be fixed in the next Compiz release (the gtk-window-decorator GSettings port is scheduled for merging).

If you'd like, you can help test by building compiz with "GWD_GSETTINGS=true makepkg" and reporting bugs here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1042323

With this patch, the following things should work correctly:
- The regular metacity (or any version above 2.34.3) should not cause the decorations to disappear
- The titlebar font should be read from DConf (at /org/gnome/desktop/interface/wm/preferences/titlebar-font) instead of GConf.
- The window decorations theme should be read from DConf (at /org/gnome/desktop/interface/gtk-theme) instead of GConf.
- The button layout should be read from DConf (at /org/gnome/desktop/interface/wm/preferences/button-layout) instead of GConf.

I already use that repo, can't get any WM without it (I've been running Arch for the past year almost, and had to start using that repo a few months ago for X to even initialise!), so that doesn't help my problem, as the Unity repo replaces Xorg (or at least some of its packages) with it's own. Unless I can install it without pulling in the UbuntuXorg packages? big_smile

Well, I didn't install Ubuntus xserver and didn't have any problems with that, so I'd say it's worth a shot.

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

Yep, the Xorg packages can be skipped. However, the Unity launcher's autohide feature will no longer work (until Xorg 1.13.0 is released).

For those interested, Ubuntu's patches add a feature which allows Xorg to detect pressure on the screen's edges (eg. lightly pushing against the left edge will not reveal the launcher). This will also be used by GNOME 3.8 for it's notification bar at the bottom.

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

I'm having a problem with gnome-control-center. I have dual monitors, and when I updated unity, I lost my settings of launcher only on the left screen and no sticky edges. I tried to change it back in "Display" in gnome-control-center, but it crashes.
When I ran "gnome-control-center" in a terminal, it exits with:

gnome-control-center: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/control-center-1/panels/libdisplay.so: undefined symbol: gnome_rr_labeler_get_rgba_for_output

I'm not quite sure that it's a problem with only gnome-control-center though. I downgraded gnome-control-center with the second most recent package from my cache and I was able to open "Display" in gnome-control-center, but changing the settings from there didn't actually change the desktop behavior.

By the way, when I encountered the problem I was using the pacman repo (unity.xe-xe.org), so I compiled using the github repo and the problem prevails.

Many thanks for any help!

Re: Progress on Unity under Arch Linux!

If it fails on libdisplay.so, it's probably due to an update in the xorg libraries. Recompiling gnome-control-center should fix the problem

I just recompiled xorg-server-ubuntu and then recompiled gnome-control-center-ubuntu and got the same error. Should I be using the xorg-server from the arch repos?

EDIT:
Just tried with the arch packages then recompiled, same problem
