hi,

i followed the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless.

i have the Broadcom Corporation BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n wlan card and i load the b43 module, also firmware and fwcutter is installed:

[-@- ~]$ lspci |grep Broad

[-@- ~]$ lsmod |grep b43

mmc_core 81526 4 b43,ssb,sdhci,sdhci_pci
mac80211 416391 1 b43
cfg80211 173210 2 b43,mac80211
[-@- ~]$ pacman -Q b43-fwcutter
b43-fwcutter 015-1
[-@- ~]$ pacman -Q b43-firmware
b43-firmware 5.100.138-2

i tried legacy.. same problem and i tried wl, which didnt even load any interface anymore.
There is no output!! when i: dmesg |grep b43

still no interface.

~]$ iwconfig
eth0 no wireless extensions.

lo no wireless extensions.
~]$ ip link

    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-wire … 94595.html <- no idea if that patch is enough, but it's the first step in trying the get it working.

You could also try the broadcom-wl driver.

Edit: From what I read, that patch is not enough. It's just the first step to get the card recognized, but further code in the b43 driver is needed for full support. So broadcom-wl is your only option.

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

post dmesg.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

That's not a useful bug report. Install the driver, modprobe the wl module, then check dmesg.

Err, why would installing the wl driver interfere with eth0? Ok, there's the possibility that wl loads first, in which case wireless would be eth0 and wired would be eth1. Search the wiki for persistent network names.

I don't know what you mean here. b43 is a driver. wl is another driver. b43 doesn't support your wifi card, wl does.

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

You need to install fw-cutter to grab the firmware.

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

Kernel 3.5.3-1 and b43 even with firmware isn't connecting to wireless routers.  Rolling back to a previous kernel 3.4.9, with restored operation.

I have a Broadcom wireless card that uses the b43 firmware and its connecting just fine with the 3.5.3-1 kernel. I'm using netcfg to manage the connection.

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

I'm using wicd and I couldn't get 3.5.3-1 to connect to anything.  I first thought it was the commercial cisco routers, and then it wouldn't connect to anything.  It sees all of the wireless stations, but it won't hold a connection, immediately dropping.

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

Have you tried using this?  Broadcom Linux Drivers

I also have a Broadcom wireless adapter and would be using the drivers from the above website, but I couldn't figure out how to get them to work.  You have to compile them in a Linux 2.6 environment, so I used virtualbox and the 2009 release media for Arch Linux and managed to get it to compile, but once I compiled it I couldn't figure out how to load the modules.  Modprobing and insmoding didn't seem to work.  So I'm not really sure if this will be helpful or not, but the drivers on the site are supposed to be for BCM43228 64bit and/or 32bit.

$ lspci | grep BCM43
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n

I could upload the compiled files to a git repo and make a PKGBUILD for them, I guess, but I have no idea what to do with the files now that they have compiled.

$ ls
built-in.o lib Makefile modules.order Module.symvers src sta wl.ko wl.mod.c wl.mod.o wl.o

Re: b43 module wont load wlan interface

I have broadcom 4312 with b43,b43-fwcutter and b43-firmware.Works fine on all kernels.Fwcutter has to be installed before firmware.Wired and wireless works perfectly for me with netcfg and wpa_supplicant and I've enabled net-auto-wireless.All learned from the wiki. But for my card b43 is the only option.

Marked this as solved if your problem has been resolved then.

( I got my eth1 working by installing broadcom-wl, which I copied from a liveCD for ArchBang So, I'm good.)
