[Solved (more or less)] Rebuild the RaspberryPi Image

Hello smile

A few days ago my raspberrypi arrived and i want to re-compile the installed packages specific to the armv6 hardfloat architecture. The rpi is really slow so it will take approximately 20 days to recompile only the installed packages. My idea is to speed up this with my Core i7, running a 64bit version of ArchLinux, I have never done something like this before, so anyone has an introduction to cross-compiling over 500 packages?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: [Solved (more or less)] Rebuild the RaspberryPi Image

Check out the Distcc wiki entries both here and at the Arch ARM site.

Hm, distcc sounds good, thx.

Hope the whole toolchain fits into a 8GB SD-Card smile

cross-tool-NG is your friend:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=45460

Pick up the Mercurial version, much more up to date.

I installed it with no issue and after a little search I found how to edit the config for armv6.

I have too a RPI and wants build some packages on my Arch box.

Re: [Solved (more or less)] Rebuild the RaspberryPi Image

What's your config for armv6?

Mine ist just the default armv5te-confguration but i changed a few lines:

CT_ARCH_ARCH=""
CT_ARCH_CPU="arm1176jzf-s"
CT_ARCH_TUNE="arm1176jzf-s"
CT_ARCH_FLOAT_HW=y
CT_ARCH_FLOAT="hard"

Hope that works (couldn't try it, ct-ng build has still errors, but i'm working on it...)

EDIT: Does someone know what's going wrong on my PC? I've installed crosstool-ng-hg from aur. As described in the tutorial, i've setup the necessary things, my home-folder looks like this:

~/cross/bin/.config
       /src/linux-3.1.tar.bz2
           /gcc-4.7.1.tar.bz2
           /binutils-2.22.tar.bz2

(I think i don't need the 3 *.tar.bz2-archives, but i only followed the guide on archlinuxarm)

If i run "ct-ng build" within ~/cross/bin i get following errors:

...
[INFO ] Retrieving needed toolchain components' tarballs
[ERROR] Unknown extension for custom linux tarball ''
[00:44] / make: *** [build] Error 1

crosstools-ng-hg version is 3011-2

Re: [Solved (more or less)] Rebuild the RaspberryPi Image

I've setup distcc and crosstool-ng, both are working and i can recompile the packages (compilation is done on my homeserver, really cool)

The problem is: How can i recompile the packages but do NOT install them?

Pacbuilder is a nice tool for recompilation, but theres no option to only compile without installing them. And the --export function does not work, so the packages aren't copied to the given directory (bug?)

Of course i can copy over all the PKGBUILDS from the abs-tree and compile them manually, but that takes a little bit too long.

For compiling only a few packages, this is a really good solution, but not really what i am searching for. I've learned a lot the last few days and now i know, that my initial intention was wrong.

What i really want is a completely automated toolchain for massive crosscompilation on my pc without the need of a raspberry pi. That would be great.

I don't know how easy this can be achieved or how much time this will take to setup the whole thing, but if you or anyone other has some information how to start, it would be great if you (or anyone other) can share it with me smile

Re: [Solved (more or less)] Rebuild the RaspberryPi Image

Since a few days i'm searching for a solution of an error, that still affects 90% of the PKGBUILDS: Configure Error 77, "Cannot create executeables".

I don't know what i'm doing wrong. Base-devel (including binutils, gcc and fakeroot) ist installed on both machines (RaspberryPi, PC) and it still doesn't work.

90% of the packages can't be build because of this error.

Any idea?

EDIT: For testing purposes i compiled a "Hello World" and it worked => gcc is ok smile
