Help Connecting to Wireless!

Hello everyone,

I have recently installed Arch Linux on an older desktop computer, but I am having problems connecting it to my wireless internet. I have a USB Wireless Network Adapter the Linksys WUSB54GSC v2. I would like to connect to the internet using this but I can't figure out how to. I have read the wiki page on this (multiple times) and I still can't figure it out. Any help you can give would be great!

Also for other information I have a temporary Ethernet cable hooked up to it so I do have internet for installing any packages or what-not I might need!

It's good that you read the wireless wiki page, but what have you *done* with that information? What errors have you received, and/or which step fails?

It took me less than a minute to find out that thing doesn't have a Linux driver. Is my google-fu so great, or is everyone else's so weak?

Anyway, try your luck with ndiswrapper or get a different adapter. I highly recommend TP-Link adapters which use Atheros chipsets (the amount of times I've said this, you'd think TP-Link and/or Atheros are paying me for it ).

So I went through the steps, first I identified the card with lsusb. Then I went to see if the card is supported and it is not, v1 is supported but no v2. This is where I started to get confused, I went ahead and looked into the man page of ndiswrapper but I can't figure it out. And I am also not sure where to get the .inf and .sys from a windows install. I also went on to read the rest of the wiki page in hopes that it would make the part I am stuck on make more sense, but it didn't. So really I guess I need help with using ndiswrapper and the .inf and .sys files.

I knew it didn't have a linux driver (see my post I was writing when you posted this one.) but I really need help with ndiswrapper.

Sorry, I have no experience with ndiswrapper, but I wanted to suggest that if you want help here you should be more forthcoming with information. A better first post would have elaborated what you had already found out and where specifically your problem was so members here didn't waste going from the start googling the device to find this information or wonder where exactly you were stuck.

Your dongle probably came with windows drivers on a cd, so extract them from that. If you don't have the CD, they should be available for download on the Linksys support site.

What the heck is up with you? I thought these forums where a place where you were supposed to be able to get help, but all you are is mean and rude. Not everybody already knows everything, you have to learn somewhere! I am just asking a question, in the future if you don't know the answer then just don't respond because all you are doing is being rude.

You seem to have completely missed the ndiswrapper section on the wiki's wireless page. Trilby's frustration, with which I can sympathise, is caused by your continued requests for assistance and information that is already widely available, and by your apparent lack of effort.

Read all available documentation, try the procedures recommended therein, and only ask here if things don't work as expected.

@TheHelpfulOne: Here at Arch we don't hold people's hands. You have to show some initiative. This means telling us what exactly you've tried, what the outcome should be, and what error messages you've gotten instead.

There is a wiki page about ndiswrapper. You've been told where to find drivers for your device. That's more than enough info to get you started. Do so. Then come back with _specific error messages_ if things won't go well.

Thank you for your more helpful reply! I will definitely go read the wiki page now. You have actually been very helpful! I will read the wiki try it out and post back with my success or failure.

So it looks like my card is not supported by NDIS wrapper. Does that mean I am just out of luck?
