Problem with nvidia

Hello guys, i'm new to arch linux. I hope this is the right place for this topic..I am a slackware user for many years and i decided to let slackware on my server and go on with arch on desktop. I have a problem with nvidia's performance.My card is gt440 (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 440] (rev a1)  ) . On slackware 13.37 i use the 295.33 driver and it runs flawlessly. Here in arch i  used the default nvidia package (nvidia,  nvidia-utils etc) means 304.51, and i noticed very poor performance, for example i play Heroes Of Newerth on slackware with all settings in high (i tested the same settings on arch) it runs without any problem! Here it stucks, i cant even move the cursor..With lower graphics it runs but it stucks sometimes. With compiz i don't have any problems.I used also dkms-nvidia-beta from aur but still the same result. Direct rendering : yes, glxgears --> 300 frames! On slackware i have 49480 frames meaning 9880.84 fps! I know that glxgears isn't a benchmark. I also noticed one more difference, on slack my refresh rate is 50 Hz but here in arch is 60Hz... I don't know if this has something to do, i changed it from xorg to 50 Hz but still nothing happened. I tried to downgrade to 295.33 but i couldn't satisfy all the dependencies...I tried to install the driver itself from nvidia website (xxx.run) but i had an error saying "can't build kernel module". So i am here, stuck and praying to find an answer through the googling. If someone knows, has or had the same problems please let me know. Thanks in advance and sorry for my english, it's not my native lang. I'll post you some info.

Re: Problem with nvidia

You shouldn't need an xorg.conf at all.  If you wish to use a lower version of the nvidia driver, simply build one using ABS (see wiki).  The PKGBUILD will have you download the kernel-headers package which is why your manual build likely failed.  Also, don't build stuff manually; always use a PKGBUILD.

Welcomed to Arch.

I tried to build a lower version of the driver with abs.. i took the PKGBUILD from the current driver, i changed the variable pkgver to 295.33 of nvidia but i have the following error
> Missing Dependencies:
  -> nvidia-utils=295.33
==> Checking buildtime dependencies...
==> ERROR: Could not resolve all dependencies.

I might need to study more the abs thing... By the way, i'm used to build things manually (slackware) smile  Now i need to forget "bad" habits smile

Re: Problem with nvidia

Same performance Problems with latest Nvidia drivers sad

Don't know what NVidia does recently. I think we simply have to wait until they release a newer version or try to downgrade

Ok sorry for that

It would be nice, if you don't just be sorry but also change your terminal/log output into [ code ] tags in the above posts. To do that, you find an "edit" link in the bottom left of each post. A link with info on BBCode tags is under each input box - have a look!
