NetworkManager with Wicd-like interface?

I have a netbook on which I use ratpoison as WM due to limited screen space. I don't want any status or menu bars at all since it steals valueable space. I have tried wicd as a network manager and it works well and can be handled through the wicd-curses application - that means no need for a desktop applet. The problem is that wicd doesn't handle 3G USB modems, and I have to use them from time to time when I'm travelling. NetworkManager handle them with ease, but it is (as far as I know) only really usefull when you use the NetworkManager applet, and for that you need a WM with a status bar.

I have looked into console tools such as nmcli but it seems they are quite limited in comparison to what you can do with the applet. Is nm-applet the only way to fully control NetworkManager, and if so, is there a way to use it without having a status bar for it to reside in.

Re: NetworkManager with Wicd-like interface?

I can see cnetworkmanager and python-networkmanager-git in the AUR. I'm fairly sure that cnetworkmanager doesn't give a graphical style interface, rather just the ability to give commands on the command line. Don't know much about python-networkmanager-git but it could be worth a go.

I've just tried both my suggestions and I appear to be getting dbus errors with them so I don't know if they are working or not. You'll have to try them yourself.
