After upgrading to 3.5.5, my computer consistently crashes on each shutdown. The problem persists with latest 3.5.6. I have downgraded to 3.5.4 to restore clean shutdowns. This picture shows a crash in kworker, but even syslog-ng may crash:

PS: I googled the recent days for shutdown crashes, but seems that I'm the only one. Anyone else?
PS: I'm old, but this was my first screen... I apologize for having previously embedded the full picture!

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Update: reinstalling kernel 3.5.6 (using install disc + chroot) solved my problems.

Starting with systemd my system no longer crashes at shutdown (!?). Tested with 3.6.2 (which also crashed at shutdown if I do the traditional boot, since I still haven't migrated to systemd).
So, it seems that "traditional boot" is no longer stable at shutdown.
Anyway, 3.6.2 heats my CPU to 70ºC (with previous kernels less than 50) and spins my fan a lot. I'll downgrade to 3.5.6, since the old kernel parameters to reduce fix power problems seem not to work either.
