[Solved] Upgrade Of Nouveau Driver Broke X

Just completed an upgrade on my AMD64 system which cause the system to have a kernel panic.

Reboot resulted in no X (just a login prompt).

Re-ran pacman -Syu & it confirmed upgrade had completed successfully.

The upgrade included an upgrade of the nouveau driver to xf86-video-nouveau-1.0.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz.

Downgraded to xf86-video-nouveau-1.0.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz & am now back in my desktop.

My Nvidia card is a 9800GT.

In the post is fine or if it's very long - pastebins are great, particularly for config files. However make sure it's a long term paste so that it doesnt expire within a day.

A useful tool for pastebins, especially if you can't copy paste is community/nopaste. Just pipe any output through nopaste and you'll get a link. eg

iphitus@korolev:~$ dmesg|nopaste

Using [ code ] tags when posting smaller logs/program output is useful too, makes it readable, and keeps the text in a specific area. Please edit your post accordingly, raw text like that stretches the page by a ridiculous amount.

EDIT: Looked through both of those logs, but you're using nouveau-1.0.2 in both of them. Could you reinstall 1.0.3, reproduce the behaviour, and then upload the new log?

I have just upgraded my system again which of course included the package xf86-video-nouveau-1.0.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz that caused the problem yesterday.

The upgrade went without an issue this time so am unable to duplicate the problem.

Have marked this as solved.

Thanks WorMzy for your help in getting the correct way to include the logs. Have learnt yet again something new!
