Taking on arch full time, decided to join the community. Forum Rules?

I've decided I'd make an account on the arch forum, as I have recently decided to start using arch fulltime. And hopefully I can be useful joining the community, embracing the arch way =p. I'm here to learn and gain what I can from the community, and any contributions I can make. I like scripting, I do PHP among others and think websites are great, being the simplest way to share anything online.

Now I understand and have read the forum rules, a simple introduction post "Hi, I've joined the forum, wanna chat?" is not what you find here. Though I have not registed my account for the reason to ask for help. I can usually fnd and solve most problems that I have, knowing how to use google, it becomes your best friend.

Though I'd like to make comment saying that when registering on the forum, and not being familuar with the forum, there is no offer to view the forum rules, and neither a link from the forum index. So first I did a forum search, and there is no link or post linking to the forum rules. Doing a google search, first result. Here they are https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Forum_Etiquette on the wiki, very well written page, simple and to the point, just like everything else. I'm sure not every new registered member reads this page before they make their first post. I think there should be a direct link, if not then a stickied post. A welcome post. Even an automatic inbox to every new member, with a welcome PM and linking to the rules.

I'll tag this and hopefully searching for forum rules can be found on the forum.

And well, hope to see you around smile

Welcome to Arch. Do you mean something like this stickied post in Newbie Corner?

Click on "Index" at the top left, then "Newbie Corner" -- there are several stickied posts for newcomers.

No matter how easy we make it for newcomers to find the rules, there will always be people who post without reading them. Don't worry, the mods take care of it wink

Ah yeah I guess I'm totally blind. Haha, well I guess I did ot think of finding that under newbie forum, seems like it would be fit this category better. Anyway yeah, it did not come up on the first page of the forum search either I'm sure it is in there, but yeah. I guess I made a useless first post after all haha yeah.

Though I think having a welcome inbox PM would be, welcoming. Though not needed.

The rules are common sense. Most people follow the rules quite fine whether they have read that wiki article or not. smile

Yes, that is true fsckd, but I figure if someone is asking, I might as well further advocate for the reading of that page in addition to the others... maybe it will help keep crap to a minimum... maybe not.

While I take most rules here to be granted (no necro bumps, no power-posting, respect others), one is not common everywhere: "Avoid Controversy/Controversial Topics". I'd pay close attention to this one, as it seems to keep discussions purely technical. Most people who stick around seem to like it that way.
