Re: kde can't launch with systemd

well, consolekit is not part of archlinux anymore. Maybe it is messing around. Try uninstalling it

Re: kde can't launch with systemd

Can you start kdm from the console?  Try deleting  /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service then re-enable the kdm service

Re: kde can't launch with systemd

Hey! What did yoy do exactly to fix the problem? I've been trying since yesterday and I can't start KDE. kdm.service is running, I made a symlink to graphical.target and everything seems to be fine, there are no errors when I boot but I see:

[OK] Reached target level Multi-User.
[OK] Reached target Graphical Interface.

And that's it.

If I run startx, I get:

(...)
xinit: unable to connect to X server: No such file or directory
xinit: server error

And if I run startkde I get the same error you got:

$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server.

I really don't know what else to try.

By the way, I'm running Xorg 1.12 and Catalyst 12.11.

Re: kde can't launch with systemd

I think your problem 'may' be related to the problem I had. I start KDE with `startx`. Without full systemd, ~/.xinitrc looked like this...

exec ck-launch-session startkde

It would not start like that with full systemd (I assume ck stands for ConsoleKit). I had to change .xinitrc to this, to make startx work.

exec startkde

Maybe somewhere KDM had the ConsoleKit config in some file, and that is why it will not start KDE. Maybe first see if KDE will boot with startx and the ~/.xinitrc config I shown here. If it dose, then remove KDM with pacman. Search for all KDM config files and remove them. Then reinstall KDM.

Re: kde can't launch with systemd

Hi! I did try that, even though II started KDE with the inittab file. But I also tried editing .xinitrc and uncommenting exec startkde, but I still get the errors above when I use startx or startkde.

I also tried reinstalling kdebase-workspace and removing configuration files, but nothing. I actually doubt it's related to KDE, I think it's either xorg and/or catalyst.

There must be something I'm missing. hmm
Thanks!

Catalyst? It looks like xorg is trying to use an Intel video card?
Do you have both ATI and Intel video card in your sytem?

Maybe I am worng...

What makes you think that?
I'm not the OP, by the way! He/she solved this and apparently had the same problem. His/her last post said  "

But I'm not sure of how to do that.

Re: kde can't launch with systemd

Well, at least in my case, it was apparently related to Catalyst from the unnoficial repository (Vi0l0's, which I've been using for over a year). I wanted to try and so installed Catalyst from the community repo and everything is well. I really don't understand the difference, why this works and the other does not, but until I do, I'll keep using the one from the official repository.

Thanks!
