Re: [Resolved] eth0 connection is going down

I presume it would help if you could offer more detailed info regarding your problem.

For example, what type of setup you are using right now. Maybe systemd?
Also, what do you turn off and on in order to get back online? Your computer? The systemd service unit you are using with your eth0 connection?

Once these questions have an answer me or anyone else may be able to help you in a much better way.

Also, it would probably help to know what hardware you are using.  Hard to diagnose a "eth0 connection is going down" without knowing what eth0 actually is.

Re: [Resolved] eth0 connection is going down

i'm not sure if i'm experiencing the same problem as the OP, but recently (don't know since when, exactly) i also can't get get my network up on eth0 once it's gone, like after suspending to RAM.

System: Host: laptop Kernel: 3.6.6-1-ARCH x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: KDE 4.9.2 Distro: Arch Linux
Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller driver: r8169
IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: c8:60:00:02:f1:09

restarting NetworkManager.service doesn't help. /etc/resolv.conf is correct, 'ip route' shows the proper routes, and ifconfig says that eth0 is up & running.

i can ping my own IP, but nothing else, neither internet nor LAN. the only thing that brings the network up again is a reboot (warm is fine). couldn't find anything in journalctl or everything.log (i'm keeping syslog-ng running for now). oh: i'm running systemd, since a couple months, and w/o problems until now.

Re: [Resolved] eth0 connection is going down

hi have a systemd but i use network manager in gnome 3, my eth0 card is realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express.

hi have some problem i think this is cause for the problem, in my router my computer is called new-host instead of real name of host.

hi have this activated systemctl enable dhcpcd@eth0

and network manager

solved: i disable ipv6, now its work fine

Re: [Resolved] eth0 connection is going down

in my case, ipv6 is already disabled, but i still can't get a working connection after NetworkManager gets stopped, like every time i suspend the machine.

as a work-around, to avoid having to reboot, i can remove the driver (r8169) via modprobe -r, then re-enable it, and my network connection works again. this is not ideal, and unless somebody can tell me what might be wrong in my configuration, i'm probably going to file a bug for this...

edit: stopping & starting NetworkManager.service does not have the same effect, i.e., my network works fine after that. seems to be something to do with suspending the system to RAM. going to look into the logs again...

Re: [Resolved] eth0 connection is going down

I have the following

0c:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 07)

and if I use r8169, my ethernet is terrible.  But if I use r8168 from the repos (the realtek provided module), it works perfectly.  I have been told by other users who have the same card with a different revision that the r8169 works great for them.  So maybe you want to try the alternate module.
