Processor Melting i915 on 3.6.6-1 and powertop shows allot of tunning

description: Notebook
    product: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC (LC952EA#ABZ)
    vendor: Hewlett-Packard
Currently running on 3.6.6-1

Powertop displays allot of bad!
http://pastie.org/5344140 (audio 100% is this normal)?
Device stats : http://pastie.org/5344143 (again allot of 100%)
Got allot of "BAD" http://pastie.org/5344146

sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +49.0 C  (crit = +99.0 C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0:  +61.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)
Core 0:         +61.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)
Core 1:         +54.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)

Normally it runs at 40

Basically the questions are 2,
1) What should I do to bring back the temperature to around 40?
2) What should I do to tun up the powertop suggestions?

thanks.

I don't know about the other bits of output you posted.  I don't use those tools, but it stands out that 100% in a line of units/sec could just mean the audio device is using 100% of what the audio device is capable of ... which sounds reasonable if it is in use.

But the reason I posted was to ask why you think those temperatures are a problem.  They seem perfectly normal to me.  You have 25 degrees C left before you even get into the "high" range, and you are no where near critical.  61.0 C is perfectly in the normal range for most of the processors I've used.

Yey, what you say makes actually sense, however after the last upgrades I got +10° on temperature and just to mention the fan makes crazy noise trying to cool the processor, and the last time I was speaking with a friend and I was near my notebook he said if I was in a server farm smile I replied, nope it's just my notebook.
PS: on windoze I get allot less hotness , I know that linux is 2 hot but this is 3 or 4 hot man smile

Do you use laptop-mode-tools?

Re: Processor Melting i915 on 3.6.6-1 and powertop shows allot of tunning

Regarding the "bad" tunables, what have you done about them? That stuff needs to be configured...

Somebody else posted output the other day showing the "ondemand" governor being marked as "bad" by powertop. I don't understand this. That is the recommended governor and powertop usually marks it as "good" (and anything else as "bad").

But the other stuff looks default to me. You have to configure it if you want it to be different.

(I have a couple of "bad" tunables myself as I haven't figured it out but the majority is covered in the wiki.)

There are also several existing threads about this.

I think this is the same person, with the same post actually, just starting a thread instead of in the midst of one.

Have you *configured* laptop-mode-tools? Have you read the wiki for the package? Have you read the wiki for advice on power management? Have you tried anything at all?

Re: Processor Melting i915 on 3.6.6-1 and powertop shows allot of tunning

Yes, at least when I first instaleld it, however I just installed yesterday:
[2012-11-18 23:13] upgraded ati-dri (9.0-1 -> 9.0.1-1)
[2012-11-18 23:13] upgraded libglapi (9.0-1 -> 9.0.1-1)
[2012-11-18 23:13] upgraded libgl (9.0-1 -> 9.0.1-1)
[2012-11-18 23:13] upgraded intel-dri (9.0-1 -> 9.0.1-1)

and today everything is fine:

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0:  +45.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)
Core 0:         +45.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)
Core 1:         +45.0 C  (high = +86.0 C, crit = +100.0 C)
