I used archlinux-64 bit system, a gnome 3.6 desktop, I have installed some package like acroread, evince....., but I counld't find those in other applications, who can help me?

For some reason, evince.desktop contains an entry (NoDisplay=true) which makes it not visible in the overview/menus.

Evince didn't show up here. I used alacarte to get it back, but I guess you could easily edit evince.desktop

I also used alacarte to make Evince appear. In general I find alacarte to be a very effective way to manage the Gnome menu.
Have you tried alacarte?

However, I just realized that evince does not appear as an option for an application to open pdfs with. As in, when I right click on a pdf and select open with, evince is not there.
Any body else seeing this?

It was happening to me before I made it apears on the menus using alacarte, now, it's working as it should
