No not quite.  I did just upgrade the file system to ext4 from ext3 because the script complained.  But after that the script ran with no errors, downloaded and installed Firefox and silverlight but when running Netflix-desktop I get a no silverlight error.

I still can't watch any Netflix due to the app claiming silverlight is not installed but it should be noted that anything prior to ext4 is not supported.

Oh sorry, I read your last post wrong. I thought the switch to ext4 solved your problems. Anyways, you still get this error even when building from scratch from the AUR packages?

Besides that, wine-1.5.18 was released upstream. I am going to start integrating it now.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

wine-silverlight has been updated to wine-1.5.18 in AUR and the archnetflix repository. See anouncement at winehq.org. You can see the changes to the repository at https://github.com/demizer/archnetflix.

Hello,

netflix-desktop does audio, but there is no video, just a black screen. Is there something I'm missing?

# pacman -Qs wine
local/netflix-desktop 0.1.2-2
A script for easily viewing Netflix via Firefox/Silverlight in WINE.
local/wine 1.5.18-1

 # lspci | grep VGA

'Is' Silverlight installed? Like make sure. It should be in...

~/.netflix-desktop/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Silverlight

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

@Daedalus1: Did you select yes to DRM content on that pop-up window that showed up the first time you tried watching a video?  If not, you'll always have a blank screen until you delete ~/.netflix-desktop and re-install and and make sure to select yes to drm content on that pop-up window that shows the first window.  This is normal.  Sometimes a black screen will be evident when you're experiencing a hang within the app - in which case you just kill it and try running it again.

EDIT:

On a seperate note...  The new update actually removed the "no siverlight is installed on your system" error on my i686 system....  But it replaced it with a internet connection error similar to the aur git version used previously...  These are using the packages from the repo BTW...

Error Code: N8156-6022

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Running on i686 with an ATI Radeon and the OS drivers is not working for me. When trying to play a movie the Silverlight plugin crashes and says:

The Silverlight plugin has crashed.
No report available.
Reload the page to try again.

On the console wine spits back an error with openGL:

libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (X_GLXCreateContext)
Serial number of failed request: 294
Current serial number in output stream: 298

Is there any way to debug this with openGL further? Also, in debug mode when playing a movie wine warns about missing the opengl32.dll file (among many other things).

I was struggling with this issue too... on a hunch, I installed lib32-libgl (replacing lib32-nvidia-utils), and bam! I can watch netflix!  Stoked!  Hope this works for you.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

So I updated via the repo on my x86_64 system - deleted the .netflix-desktop prefix and re-created it.  It works.

My i686 system, though, does not sad

It's producing the same connection error the previous git version did.  Is whoever supposedly succesfully ran this on i686 still running it ($ mv ~/.netflix-desktop ~/netflix-desktop-tmp) to re-create it to see if it works and if it doesn't remove the newly created prefix and move the previous one into place for the sake of testing.

I make sure to enable/click yes on the silverlight pop up right before watching the video.

I don't really want to use open source ati drivers though, since I didn't buy a $400 graphics card to do 2d accel.

Why netflix? Why?! :'(

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

are you legacy catalyst or current catalyst?  I have an ati card with catalyst and it works just fine for me...

edit: I might be a little lost but did the free/open drivers work for you??  I'll check my 32 bit libraries on my system with the catalyst graphics because it SHOULD work as it definately works, and quite well I may add.

Sorry to be repetetive - which exact version number?  My primary 64 bit system uses version 12.11 without problems which I installed via the AUR. (not 12.9 via the official arch repos)

I cant start netflix-desktop because it says

It appears that you do not have extended file system attributes enabled, please enable the user_xattr option and try again.

I added user_xattr to the mount options  in fstab of my root filesystem(of witch /home is part) that is formated in reiserfs to no effect. I also tryed running as root to see if there was some permission problem but no effect

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Yea, I had the same thing happen on my laptop w/the only difference being I'm using ext3. I tried just adding "ext4" to fstab as described in the wiki but no go. I tried building it via AUR and that didn't help either. With that said, I did succefully build it on my desktop w/ext3 filesystem though. I do think it's cool there's finally some headway bringing netflix to linux (even if it is w/wine).

I'm hoping xbmc will be able to do something that will add netflix as a plugin.

Demizer thanks for your efforts on this it's a very cool thing indeed.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

you need to actually convert your ext3 to ext4 through a live cd/usb environment (I did this and did no receive those errors afterward) other than just mounting it as ext4.  It is fairly easy...  I also noticed performance boosts after in comparison to ext3 (go figure).

taken from wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ex … t3_to_ext4

# tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sdaX
# fsck -fDp /dev/sdaX

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

I just installed wine-silverlight and then manually installed firefox and silverlight then made a small bash script to launch it works great and no need to switch to ext4 or have to mount with user_xattr witch is somewhat of a security risk

haha I wish I had done this.  So manually installing silverlight and firefox works well for you?  congrats.  I'm curious but have you only tested netflix or have you tried other silverlight appliations?  there's a somewhat neat one at www.freestockcharts.com but I've never gotten it to work under Linux.

Sorry for the late reply. I was working on the ZFS packages, but I also was not getting email notifications for some reason.

Man this is such a pain. I am going to investigate why this is needed in the future. I believe it is for the DRM, but I am not 100% sure.

All netflix-desktop is is a bash script. Manually installing is completely not necessary. You could have just edited the script to remove the user_xattr checks. That said, if anyone is going to do manual installs, I recommend using Firefox 14 and Silverlight 4. I have read that the newer versions don't work at all.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

netflix-desktop has been updated to 0.2.0. This new version includes:

  • Changes from upstream including better extended filesystem attribute detection.

  • Command line arguments to show debug output and disable xattr checks and enable/disable xset.

  • Support for Firefox 17.0.1

  • Support for xset to disable dpms and screen saver while playing.

  • Bug fixes

You can get it from AUR or from demizerone.com/archnetflix.
