Kernel Stack Trace upon boot, SCSI/ATA errors

Hello all,

The last 2 times I have tried upgrading my file/media server I am running into some kernel issues which seem related to SCSI/ATA. I have never had this issue before but downgraded to my last working kernel solves the issue. I took a picture of the stack trace as I am not sure how to get this info otherwise. Obviously I can only see what is on the screen at the time of the lockup, I can't see what came before. If someone can point me to where I can find a log of this then I can post it. In the meantime here is a screenshot.

I hope someone can help as I am afraid to update my system now. I guess I will just put the kernel stuff into ignore for the time being. :-(

Last working kernel version was linux-3.5.4-1

I am not sure what other info might be needed, let me know and I can post up whatever logs/info is requested.

I think you need to provide more information.  Like what is the actual hardware you are running on, maybe post the output of lspci -v?  Also, a detailed description of what happens when you boot.  Does the kernel seem to load, the initramfs, does it start to boot, are there messages during the boot process, where are my pants?  If it is loading the initramfs, what is in your mkinitcpio.conf?

If you continue on a path of ignoring the kernel updates, keep in mind that there are packages of modules that are built against the current kernel. So for instance, my ethernet needs the r8168 module which is available in community.  So I would need to ignore that as well.

Just to update, I fixed the issue by removing pata_acpi and pata_amd from mkinitcpio.conf. I don't use any pata devices on that machine so this is a good fix for now.

The problem would occur almost instantly upon boot up, basically I couldn't see anything before the stack trace popped, so to be honest not sure how far along it got.
