[Solved]Gnome - Bottom of screen untouchable until resolution adjusted

I've looked through the Gnome extensions database and can't seem to find a fix in that form, so I'll come to you guys. When I first start the X server (I do this manually, if that helps) and hit Super to open the gnome main menu, the bottom bar, which I am mysteriously unable to screenshot, is enlarged, and anything below a certain point on the screen (at any point, not just while I'm in the main menu) cannot be clicked. This is fixed when I change the resolution to the next lowest setting and stays fixed when I change back to the right screen resolution. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing it? I can certainly live with it, but it gets annoying to adjust resolution every time I want to engage pretty mode.

EDIT: The problem was an outdated Gnome extension.

Re: [Solved]Gnome - Bottom of screen untouchable until resolution adjusted

Could you try starting gnome from gdm and see if the problem still occurs? What graphics card do you have? Have you configured it in any special way? Starting X manually, do you mean with 'startx'? In that case, what is your .xinitrc?

See, there is lots of things you could have put in those two last posts besides "bump" wink

Re: [Solved]Gnome - Bottom of screen untouchable until resolution adjusted

In general, a lack of response is an indication there is not enough information.  Rather than just bumping (in violation of our policy), may I suggest you provide more information.

Examples:
You did not mention what video chip set your system uses.
What are the resolutions you were using.
What is your pointing device? (mouse, touch pad, touch screen, tablet)
Maybe posting your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (using BBCode code tags, of course smile )

Thanks.

mariusmeyer wrote:

Intel Sandybridge Mobile.

mariusmeyer wrote:

Not at all.

mariusmeyer wrote:

Indeed.

mariusmeyer wrote:

#!/bin/sh

# Source scripts in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
        [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
fi

exec gnome-session

Except for exec gnome-session, I have no idea what any of it means, I'm sorry to say.

Terribly sorry! I was unaware we were not allowed to bump! tongue

EDIT:

ewaller wrote:

What are the resolutions you were using.

1366x768 (16:9) is the resolution I am set to, and I switch to 1024x768 (4:3) for a split second then hit "restore previous configuration" to go back to 16:9.

I really don't think this is it, since it also renders notify-send too high as well as moving the notification area bar too high.

Re: [Solved]Gnome - Bottom of screen untouchable until resolution adjusted

I found out that it's a problem with one of my extensions, and I've got a guess as to which one, be right back with that!

EDIT: It was the outdated extension found at https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ … -settings/

Thanks for the help with guidelines, guys!
