Being tired fighting with Skype crashes I have tried to find a replacement (I really need stable videochat to communicate with my not too young (75) mother, she has AL installed also). Result is:
- kde-telepathy: telepathy-kde-call-ui isn't compatible with current farstream (and is moved - temporary? - to AUR)
- pidgin: videochat isn't built being not compatible with current farstream
- gajim: videochat is disabled as far as python-farstream isn't installed (we haven't such package at all)
- empathy: forces to install unknown subset of gnome (but kde is in use on all my family machines), also breaks audio with a crap called pulseaudio-alsa (it replaces carefully crafted /etc/audio.conf with own pulseaudio-oriented config)
You see, I have tried to do the best I can, but am not lucky. I hope I have missed something, and there is an opportunity to resolve the issue. Please, help!

Nobody cares?

Correct, nobody gives a monkeys. There is clearly no other explanation for the lack of response to your incredibly important question.
<edit>OTOH, minimal searching suggests that Google Voice works well, and Google Plus Hangouts works even better.
Cue the daily whine-chorus of "ZOMG I DON'T WANT TO SELL MY SOUL TO GOOGLE!!!111"

I'm not English speaker and don't understand your metaphor with monkeys. With my message I just represented own surprising: I know AL community to be very creative, and have not expected nobody has found working Skype alternative. Sorry if my message looks not-friendly, I really didn't mean anything offensive.

Nevermind the monkeys
- I was just trying to get you to reconsider your conclusion that "Nobody cares", as there are many other reasons why people don't answer, including, but not limited to, lack of knowledge and/or time.

Jitsi

aur/jitsi
Not only is fully crossplatform but it is also secure with OTR encryption. Everyone should be using Jitsi anyway. Microsoft has deployed 10,000 grsecurity hardened Linux servers as Skype supernodes to provide ""Lawful" Intercept", and no they did not donate any money to Linux development or grsecurity.
Setup a free SIP account on iptel.org.

hunterthomson,
Thanks, I'll try jitsi. Which criteria did you use to select iptel.org among others?
