Dell Inspiron 15R SE w/ full HD, i7 and 8 GB.
When I bought it, Ubuntu was already pre-installed. This proves that it can run Linux!
There were problems w/ v-cards (ye, it has two v-cards), but at the end I stick to built-in Intel and it works. I believe that it's possible to use ATI as well or even make those two switchable. Sound and webcam works out of the box! Lights for keys works too. There is problem that when I close laptop it can't turn on, but I believe that it's fixable! Battery life is bad and fn keys doesn't work, but I haven't looked on it yet. Oh, microphone works! If you have any questions, ask!

Acer Aspire 5542-5241. It came with a basic linux distro, no GUI, just for hardware testing.
Everything works out of the box just fine except HDMI sound (solution here: ATI HDMI Audio) and the camera which I haven't tested yet. I'm using open ati drivers because the propietary drivers won't work with the old graphics card. Other specs:
AMD Turion II X2 M500 (2.2 GHz)
ATI Radeon HD 4200
4GB RAM - 500 GB HD
Just contact me if you have the same model and want to exchange info

I've been troubleshooting some problems:
Wireless randomly hangs / disconnects:
Install linux-ck and broadcom-wl-ck from repo-ck
No audio
Change default ALSA sound card
Hard drive spins down frequently, leading to very slow program loading times
Install laptop-mode-tools + hdparm and change the hdparm -B value to 254
I'll try to update this as I fix more stuff.

Just update your firmware/BIOS prior to booting into Arch! Otherwise you're going to hang after loading the kernel. Everything works out of the box, though.

I installed arch linux on my ao722 a few days ago, and I thought it was scary how well it worked.
I did notice some wifi hiccups.. but wifi hasn't always been perfect under windows either.
I did not have the spin down issue.
I just followed the wiki for this laptop in order to fix the sound issue. Sort of a hack to replace the number in alsa.conf, but it works well enough.
I don't think I am having any other issue.. except I wish xvba supported mpeg-2...

Everything works out of the box, but the wifi has connection issues and would randomly stop without notifying anything. That however is a iwlwifi issue. Haven't checked with TLP scripts, but powertop reports 10-12W power drain on stock install with laptop-mode-tools, with just web browsing. The most ridiculous thing is downgrading from Windows 8 to 7, the 7 installer can't for some reason install on a GPT disk, I had to convert it to MBR. I'm currently triplebooting between Arch (work), Ubuntu (games) and Windows (games and things that don't work on Arch), with Windows I get 7-9 hours on a charge, on Arch I get 7ish and on Ubuntu I get 5-7 depending on what I do.
Anyways great laptop, I don't need a powerhouse, there's the desktop at home for that, but most things work just fine on this little guy!

Just saw this on slashdot. Any of you with a samsung laptop should be VERY careful
"Heise News reports today some Samsung notebooks can be turned into a brick if booted just one time via UEFI into Linux. Even the firmware does not boot anymore. Some reports in the Ubuntu bug tracker system report that such notebooks can not be recovered without replacing the main board. Other Linux distributions may be affected as well. Kernel developers are discussing a change in the samsung-laptop driver."

What exactly is your problem? Just that message (which isn't a problem, just a warning that things might not work), or does the driver not work? EFI isn't officially supported either, so it wouldn't be weird if it doesn't work. Though I've seen reports that it does.
If the driver doesn't work, you'll need to boot the machine in BIOS mode. Or switch to the nouveau driver.

Everything works out of the box, with the correct drivers installed. No hacking needed.
Direct kernel booting via EFISTUB. Who needs a bootloader?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Toshiba Z930 series notebook and of course am running Arch Linux.
The laptop is extremely light (about 1,2kg), has great autonomy (more than 4h), and is also blazingly fast (it has a 128gb SSD)
I have had no problem with the hardware, except that a kernel bug prevents the laptop from suspending properly (more precisely, I can suspend it once, but it will hang when trying to suspend it a second time). Unfortunately, I don't have the time to try and debug this - it would seem other people are also having this bug, on other linux distributions too. But not being able to suspend is pretty much compensated by the fact that it boots in less than 10 seconds.
Also, the laptop boots via UEFI, using rEFInd as a bootloader. I lost quite some time setting that up because I couldn't get it to load /EFI/refind/refind_x64.efi upon boot with efibootmgr, I had to copy rEFInd at the default location which is /EFI/boot/bootx64.efi (on the EFI system partition), which was not very well documented in the Arch Linux wiki, and only vaguely mentionned in the rEFInd documentation.
Before that I was using an Acer Aspire 5720 laptop, also with Arch Linux. The wireless connection (bcm4311) needed specific firmware to be used. The nouveau driver used to hang randomly when I tested it a few years ago, so I have mostly stayed with the proprietary NVIDIA driver (but I hear nouveau is quite stable these days). The sound card would need the use of a specific modprobe option, but then it worked better under Linux than Windows. I have used it quite intensively for five years or so, and it is still working very well.

Surface Pro with Arch. Runs really well, some issues with the wifi (gonna still to be succesful ndiswrapping the marvell driver).
USB needs to be prepared for UEFI otherwise it won't be recognized and it won't be bootable.
To boot into the usb without having Windows, one needs to hold down alt+F2+fn. It is a bit hard because it boots really fast but it can be done. If you have another os installed, say, Ubuntu, then this will take you to the GRUB screen. From there you have to press 'c' to go into commandline. Type exit and it should take you into the usb boot screen. If it doens't, 'c' again, 'exit' again.
It is really quick and it looks great with Gnome - they were not lying when they said they wanted tablet, it works really, really well.
