intermittent wireless connection

Hello,

I've got the latest 64 bit version of arch(04.01.13)
Wireless Device: "Bus 001 Device 002: ID 13b1:002f Linksys AE1000 v1 802.11n [Ralink RT3572]"

But i've got terrible connectivity.
Note that it works super well on my windows OS.

here is a ping:

PING google.com (74.125.228.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from iad23s05-in-f8.1e100.net (74.125.228.8): icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=52.6 ms
64 bytes from iad23s05-in-f8.1e100.net (74.125.228.8): icmp_seq=2 ttl=56 time=58.4 ms
64 bytes from iad23s05-in-f8.1e100.net (74.125.228.8): icmp_seq=3 ttl=56 time=25.7 ms
64 bytes from iad23s05-in-f8.1e100.net (74.125.228.8): icmp_seq=4 ttl=56 time=28.6 ms

--- google.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 4 received, 20% packet loss, time 6950ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 25.709/41.372/58.437/14.360 ms

And this is a pretty good ping.
I've been getting 1000ms hiccups every 5 or 10 pings.
Pacman is downloading super slow.

I've searched AUR for the RT3572 driver but no luck.

Any ideas?

Re: intermittent wireless connection

Your title says intermittent - but the problem(s) you decribe are more "it's a bit slow" - does it drop out altogether?

Those ping times aren't too unusual - and highly dependent on a huge number of factors; from time of day to isp isnetwork maintenance etc...

There would be more concern if you were losing packets altogether wink

Are you using the driver you built (in your other post) or did you uninstall and try a kernel driver?

If pacman being slow is your main problem then you may need to tune your mirrors

Re: intermittent wireless connection

It does drop altogether every minute or so.
I'll do 20 pings, and 1 out of the 20 will be 1000+ miliseconds.
I guess it would be better described as intermittently slow.

I am using whatever driver came with the kernel as i could not get the Ralink RT3572 to install.

Re: intermittent wireless connection

Try disabling power saving for your wireless card.
