Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

I removed the ability to disable the toolbars because I wanted the script to match upstream as close as possible. That was a mistake. Sorry! I am going to add a configuration file to allow disabling of the custom profile (including fullscreen close extension) as well as setting a custom location for the netflix-desktop directory.

the F11 key toggles fullscreen/windowed modes.

@demizer - great work with the recent additions/features regardless.

I'm still a little unclear on whether firefox's auto update feature is disabled or not.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Thanks! But I am just the packager. Anyways, I am working right now on adding a configuration file support so we can change the installation path and disable the custom profile. Also, and updated wine-silverlight is compiling right now that improves the performance of Netflix playback greatly. We shall see.

As for the auto update feature in firefox, it definitely auto updates if you go into the about box. Last I checked it didn't seem to break anything, but you never know.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

netflix-desktop has been updated to 0.5.0. Changes include:

* New configuration file support. It will be created on start up and you will be given an opportunity to edit it. The $EDITOR variable is used.

wine-silverlight has been updated to pkgrel 2. Changes from upstream include:

* Smooth playback fixes. Playback is now at 24fps.

For faster, no-fuss updates, use archnetflix unofficial repository. See http://demizerone.com/archnetflix for details.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Hi, thanks a lot, you are doing a great job!
I have to follow firesgood advice and replace lib32-nvidia-utils wih lib32-libgl, otherwise I had no video. That didn't happen with the first version I installed, can't remember version number. Perhaps it would be a good idea to show that tip in the note that shows up after installing the package, I was lucky to see that reading the thread to see if I could find any clues to make it work.
Performance isn't good yet, I get beter results from virtualbox, hope that will change soon, as development seem to be very active. If anyone has any tip to improve performance with nvidia cards, it will be welcome

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Even though this is not netflix related it is very much silverlight related.  This latest patch/update is so phenomenal that even a previous browser app I've spent years trying to get to work right, now works!!

take a look at www.freestockcharts.com - it locked up on me when switching tabs but it at least loaded and worked giving it focus.  See if your system can handle it.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

For some reason, both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of arch installed as guests to Virtualbox do not function correctly.  I get the following errors:

The program plugin-container.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0xffffffff in 32-bit code (0xf3b3b050).

Followed by a hex dump.  My laptop running 32 bit arch runs it fine. I am using the repository.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Also getting the "plugin-container.exe" error. Trying to catch up with this thread so not sure if it was supposed to be officially fixed yet or not. I also updated my repo to point to "archnetflix". Since i was already up to date, it did not need to update my install when I did a pacman -Sy  netflix-desktop once I got the repo setup. I just removed and re-installed everything netflix-desktop but get the same error.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

A few times now when I would go to the Netflix.com website, (not even playing  a video) a script on their website would cause the firefox.exe process to go into an endless loop or something eating up 100% CPU on one core.

The only way I could fix this was to uninstall netfilx-desktop, wine-silverlight, and delete ~/.netflix-desktop Then install one version older.

rm -r ~/.netflix-desktop
pacman -R netflix-desktop wine-silverlight

cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg
pacman -U netflix-desktop-0.5.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz wine-silverlight-1.5.19-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Run netflix-desktop and let it reinstall. After that I can go an upgrade to the newest versions.

Dose anyone have any idea what could be the problem this is fixing?

I am using precompiled packages from

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

wine-silverlight has been updated to 1.5.21. If you are using the signed repository, your pacman.conf will need to be updated as the location of the repository has changed. See http://demizerone.com/archnetflix.

The new address of the repo is as follows:

[archnetflix]
http://demizerone.com/$repo/community/$arch

@hunterthomson, I have not experienced this. Try installing the new package and let us know how it goes.

Yeah, I'm getting a wine conflict too (in my case, wine-silverlight and wine-multimedia). I thought it'd been resolved that wine-silverlight was staying in /opt/ for now?

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Regarding the conflicts, I accidentally merged the these in from the upstream wine-git pkg on the last update. It has now been fixed.

@kristof, I have no sound issues on my three machines, but I also don't use pulseaudio.

I am getting the following error:

resolving dependencies...
warning: cannot resolve "ttf-ms-fonts", a dependency of "netflix-desktop"

      netflix-desktop

Do you want to skip the above package for this upgrade? [y/N] y

there is nothing to do

I downloaded the ttf-ms-fonts tarball and built it but I am still getting this error

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Junior, you can't just have downloaded the ttf-ms-fonts tarball, you need to have installed the package. Or, if you know you have the fonts installed, you could edit out that dependency from netflix-desktop's PKGBUILD, but the former method would be recommended.

All the best,

Lol thanks HalosGhost, it would help to install the package tongue. I kept using pacman -S instead of pacman -U.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

netflix-desktop is updated to 0.6.0. Just some minor updates to match upstream.

- Changed the name of the firefox profile to browser-profile.
- Updated firefox support to version 18.0.1

With the 0.6.0 update, upstream has went further into Ubuntu territory. I have attempted to keep the main script as similar as possible to each other to ease future diff merges, if they ever happen again.

I consider this script pretty complete, and will only perform maintenance updates in the future.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Just a quick report, as well as thank you for the work you're doing with these packages.

1. My arch setup is 64bit with an nvidia GTX260, 4gig ram. Hard wired ethernet to highspeed cable connection.
Latest nvidia drivers as well as nvidia 32bit utils/requirements.
The install from the custom repositories works as advertised.
Sound is via pulseaudio and this also works.

What is irritating is that the video is anything but smooth 24fps.  There are times it seems to stutter/chop badly and then smooth out for a short time, and then stutter again. While watchable for the most part, anything longer than 10-20 minutes is enough to induce a migraine.  This occurs no matter how much buffer is indicated.  Fullscreen or not makes no difference to playback.  Sound stays synced no matter what.

I am experiencing these problems as well. When launching netflix-desktop however it gave me a message that there was some newer version available, or something along those lines. I clicked on the relevant options to download these, and I suspect the problems may be stemming from that?

I don't think that's the issue, as the initial pacman install indicates that the first time up, you are SUPPOSED to let it download the firefox and silverlight install ".exe".  If you say no, it quits without starting the application.

That is unfortunate, I have no idea what the problem is then. Having Netflix on my linux OS is awesome and all, but not so much if there is stutter.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

Regarding the stuttering, when all else fails, delete ~/.netflix-desktop to see if a fresh install will fix the issues you are having. I have no issues whatsoever with stuttering on my three computers. On my 64bit Nvidia system I do have tearing, but that is because I have dual screens and i'll leave it at that. On my Intel systems the playback is nice and smooth.

FWIW, I do have SSD flash drives an all three computers with ext4 filesystems.

Re: netflix-desktop and wine-silverlight are now in AUR

demizer, I've done that twice as a matter of course (having been using wine for various things for years), and its not making any difference.  The system I'm using is ext4 with 7800rpm sata drives with a gtx260 nvidia + latest drivers (including 32bit utilities/etc.)

The interesting thing to report at this point is that the problem is less under the ubuntu partition with compholio (same exact everything else hardware-wise, save distro).  I'm seeing the stutter/low fps initially, and then it smooths out pretty well under ubuntu.  Not perfect, nor anywhere near close to smplayer+.mkv hd movie files, but better than what is happening via Arch.

Its working though, and that beats NOT WORKING all around the block and back.  heh heh.
