Can't start i3, but openbox and wmii work fine

As I mention in the title, openbox and wmii are both working fine. If I instead put "exec i3" into my .xinitrc then the computer goes into a loop where text is on the screen then it flashes black and repeats. The cycle is very quick so it is difficult to read the text but I did notice that the end of the output seems to cycle between 3 different messages. One of the 3 messages said "connection to xserver lost". The contents of Xorg.0.log is:

It seems like the error might be related to this part:

[ 47.931] (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/OTF/" does not exist.
[ 47.931] Entry deleted from font path.
[ 47.931] (WW) `fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/".

	/usr/share/fonts/misc/,
	/usr/share/fonts/TTF/,
	/usr/share/fonts/Type1/,

This is similar to what was mentioned here. I don't exactly have a question at this point but I'm going to keep track of the things I try here in case anybody searches for the problem in the future.

Re: Can't start i3, but openbox and wmii work fine

So after installing xorg-fonts-100dpi and xorg-fonts-75 dpi the error about "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/" goes away. The same flashing behavior remains when trying to startx but the switching between 3 different messages is no longer there. The new Xorg.0.log is:
