Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/n only gets b/g 2.4 GHz

Hello, my issue is that I can not connect to my 802.11n wireless router with my 802.11a/b/g/n wifi card using the A/N band with 5 GHz.

I can only connect to the wireless router when using the B/G band at 2.4 GHz.

I have a Verizon WPAK2 Dual Band Wireless-N Router capable of 5 GHz and I also have the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/n dual band wifi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), 2x2 adapter, so I would really like to use the 5 GHz for the higher speeds and greater network capacity. Any help in fixing this would be appreciated.

I also use KDE 4.10 and Networkmanager.

Me connected at 2.4 GHz on Channel 11:

This is the only KDE Networkmanager settings that work (Infrastructure):

I can't connect using the A band settings for Ad-hoc:

When searching the forums/google I find a few similar issues but no clear answers. I also have found a few pages saying that there was an issue with the newer kernel versions. I'm just wondering if there is something I can do to fix this? (I also tried to connect manually but failed in all attempts)

Does your router have an option to enable or disable WMM/QoS?
I'm running tomato on a netgear n and a wrt54gl, and enabling it allows my centrino 6230 to connect to the netgear; however it is at the expense of all my other wifi cards/computers.
If you have a setting like that try it out both ways.

Maybe post some screenshots of your router's wifi settings pages as well. I originally thought this to be a wifi card problem and not a router problem, but I now believe it to be a bit of both.

Edit: forgot to mention I also changed 802.11 preamble to greenfield.

Re: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/n only gets b/g 2.4 GHz

Thank you for your reply.

My Verizon Actiontec model is: MI424WR Rev. I (dual antenna supporting wireless-n band as well as b/g)

I found this Actiontec support page and I do believe I will be able to adjust the QoS: https://www.actiontec.com/products/product.php?pid=189

The page is for the older model with only one antenna (Rev. G) but I'm going to see if there is anything in the settings that I can configure to use the wireless-n band.

I'm also checking out a few forums about the "MI424WR Rev. I" and so far I am reading that it only has a 2.4 GHz frequency... but I still want to use the "n" band so that I can get a data rate of 160Mbps rather than 54Mbps: https://secure.dslreports.com/forum/r26707704-

I've never owned a wireless router before so this is all new to me. (I've just used ethernet at home and logged into public wifi when out the house).

Thanks again for the reply, and I'm going to try a few things and then post here again if anything works (or if I break something).

EDIT: I found a page that has my model (Rev. I): http://www.actiontec.com/products/product.php?pid=41
-there's no "how to guides" just specs.

Re: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/n only gets b/g 2.4 GHz

Stumbled on this looking for a solution for my HP laptop and iPhone4 not connecting to router set to 'N-only'.  I'm suspecting this is primarily a fine-grained hardware support issue, as many devices were manufactured and sold before the N-standard was finalized.

My situation--
Linksys router: B/G/N capable running dd-wrt
HP laptop (ath9k): specs tout "N" capability, can't connect with G disabled.  Using Netcfg.
iPhone4 : same as above
Motorola Atrix HD (android): connects perfectly
MacBook : connects perfectly

When router is set to wireless G+N, everything connects.

Re: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/n only gets b/g 2.4 GHz

After accessing the settings page for the Verizon Actiontec MI424WR (Rev. I) Rounter, I found that there is a "performance" setting for 802.11n and two other settings for b/g and b. You can also change the channel settings from automatic to any channel between 1-11. (u.s.)

I did both of these settings (perfomance 802.11n and channel 11) and I still only get a b/g band at the expected 2.4 GHz frequency on my Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200. My download rate should be 75Mbps but instead I only get 40Mbps when using the wireless connection. And my router's user manual said that it should be able to get up to 160Mbps download rates using 802.11n on 2.4 GHz.

I searched some more and found this very detailed thread about the intel 802.11n wifi driver: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=152911

I also tried to load the module like this with "sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=0" but then it would fail connection. I haven't tried anything else since it works good enough with the b/g setting for when I'm not near my ethernet cable.

If anybody has any simple fixes for my intel card and the iwlwifi then feel free to post it.

I removed my iwlwifi module and reloaded it trying to use the n setting like on this ubuntu page but it didn't work for me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1994792

I'm giving up on my Dell Studio15Z for now and saving up for a new laptop/tablet/duo (either Sony or MSI). Good luck with your HP.
