Re: X server can't start with catalyst

Which catalyst package do you have installed? The one from the official repos or one from the AUR? It looks like you recently updated your kernel but forget to rebuild the kernel modules for catalyst. Is this correct?

There's catalyst-dkms (DKMS) as well as catalyst-hook. These automatically rebuild your kernel modules. Maybe you have one of these installed already but the hooks didn't fire because you installed linux before linux-headers or vice versa.

I would reinstall linux and linux-headers (just a normal pacman -S is fine) to see if it triggers the hooks and rebuild the kernal modules for you (you'll have to reboot after rebuilding the kernel modules). If that works, great, otherwise post more information on which catalyst package you're using.

Welcome to Arch Linux.  Please use BBCode code tags around file dumps and program output.  Your readers will appreciate it.  There is a link below the post box to a simple reference.  I am going to go ahead and edit your post.  You can edit it to see how it is done.

Thanks.

I tryed to install driver from here.
But I got another error :

DKMS: add completed.

Kernel preparation unnecessary for this kernel. Skipping...

Building module:
cleaning build area....
cd /var/lib/dkms/fglrx/9.012/build; sh make.sh --nohints --uname_r=3.7.9-2-ARCH --norootcheck.......(bad exit status: 1)
[Error] Kernel Module : Failed to build fglrx-9.012 with DKMS
[Error] Kernel Module : Removing fglrx-9.012 from DKMS

When I tryed to install catalyst-dkms, I got an error from the head of that topic.
Linux haders are installed.

No, I've installed the driver to updated kernel.

PS. Somewere I found that new ati driver cannot be installed to 3.7.* kernel without a patch. If it is right, where can I find the information about these patch? I found nothing in wiki about it.

Re: X server can't start with catalyst

If you look at the wiki page you'll see

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMD_Catalyst

1.1 Installing the driver
1.1.1 Installing from the official repository
1.1.2 Installing from the unofficial repository
1.1.3 Installing from the AUR
1.1.4 Installing directly from AMD

Installing directly from AMD is the least recommended option and I've personally never tried it. If you want the proprietary AMD drivers, I'd recommend just using the catalyst-total package from the AUR.
Description

AMD/ATI drivers. catalyst-hook + catalyst-utils + lib32-catalyst-utils. Radeons HD 2 3 4 xxx ARE NOT SUPPORTED

It's the easiest way imo, everything is setup for you in one shot.

Anyways, your version of xorg is too recent. You're running version (X.Org X Server 1.13.2.901) https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AM … positories

Catalyst is notorious for its slow update process. As such, it is common that a new Xorg version is pushed down from upstream that will break compatibility for Catalyst.

Catalyst < 12.10 doesn't support xorg-server 1.13, so if you're running the latest version of xorg-server (which you are) then it's not going to work. You have to downgrade your xorg packages. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Do … g_Packages.
