Hi, I don't usually use my WiFi but I decided to give it a shot. I have an ipw2100 card, model is loaded and runing.
I'm using KDE now so I tried using the Kwifimanager. It said my radio is off and tried to turn it on by doing
iwconfig eth1 txpower on
But failed.
When I tried to do the same manually as root I got:
Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26) :
SET failed on device eth1 ; Invalid argument.
the output of iwconfig is :
lo no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

Anyone knows how can I turn it on?
Thanks,

Hi,
This could be a laptop specific issue. You might need an rfswitch, see here
http://rfswitch.sourceforge.net/?page=laptop_matrix
For example, in my case, I needed the module fsam7400 for my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo that has ipw2200.

txpower won't turn the actual device on - txpower is used for the actual power of the signal, not the device - like Panu said, you may need rfswitch
