(Acer Aspire 5750) Display inactive when X sleeps or laptop closes

I have an Acer Aspire 5750 running Linux 3.8.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Mar 20 22:10:25 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

Ever since I upgraded the kernel, at least I think that's the issue, when my display goes to sleep or I close the laptop and it hibernates I cannot resume the display.

When I open the laptop nothing.  No TTYs using Ctrl+Alt F* and no X.  When I push the power button the display comes back and shows the shutdown processes taking place.  When the display sleeps from inactivity while open the same symptoms are present including no display of the shutdown process.

From previous posts I've read there have been mention of driver issues included in the new kernel, which is why I suspect the kernel, and a blacklisting and installation from the vendor's websites.  Can anyone help me begin to troubleshoot this issue?  I've used arch for about 3 months and this is the first issue I've had that has seriously affected my habits and abilities to solve this without assistance or redundancy.

I use the xf86-video-intel drivers for my display.

The problem with using dmesg to find something interesting is that I can't see what before I manually power the host down.

I'm going to try removing and reinstalling the intel display drivers and see what happens.

There are a couple of threads about this: your display is just likely still alseep; hit one of the brightness keys and it should reappear...

My initial thought was correct.  The updated kernel was causing issues.  When I followed these instructions:

For me, resume does not resume the screen, only keyboard and cpu ++ AFAIK. I've got Intel Ivy Bridge graphics on this wonderful NP900X3C laptop.

Initally I though this had something to do with systemd or some dependency of systemd that was not properly installed.

I just wanted to say that I can resume now when rolling back to 18th of March kernel linux-3.8.3-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz ==> linux-3.7.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz from Roll Back machine.

Hope this gets fixed soon, we have to do this!

I rolled the kernel back to the one suggested and now my laptop resumes display functions after being closed.
