Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

Hi. After I upgraded and restarted my computer Network Manager did not automatically connect to my wireless network as it usually does. Instead, when I clicked on the icon it says

Ethernet Networks

disconnected (in grey so I can't click on it).

It only gives me the option of editing VPN connections. I saw another post saying that I should set IPv6 as link-local so I went into Network Connections and chose a network that I had previously connected to and changed the IPv6 on it to link-local which did nothing.

I then tried things with systemctl in the terminal to try and fix things:

 sudo systemctl enable dhcpcd@enp3s0.service

went off without a hitch. However, then

 sudo systemctl start dhcpcd@enp3s0.service

was met with

 Job for dhcpcd@enp3s0.service failed.

I then tried

 sudo systemctl status dhcpcd@enp3s0.service
 dhcpcd@enp3s0.service - dhcpcd on enp3s0

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

Let;s look at a couple things.
What is the output of lspci -nn   (That is two n's, not m)
Then, force the NIC up with: sudo ip link set enp3s0 up
Then post the output of ip link

Also, have you checked the network cable?  Are the link lights on at both ends?  (Just checking smile you would not believe how often it is the cable)

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

The cable is connected to a router to which other computers in my house are connected to and they are working perfectly normal with the internet (however they are Windows thus inferior to Arch Linux wink ). I'm sorry I should have mentioned that earlier. I am in a bit of a hurry so I will post my output a little bit later in the day.

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

Well, let's try this.

What is the output of ethtool enp3s0

and of cat "/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:0.0/power/control"  ??
Should that file not exist, please post the output of ls -l /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:03:00/

I think that the output for "journalctl -xn" might also be useful because when when the job for enp3s0 failed it told me to look at its output:

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

I rebooted my computer and saw something I don't think I saw before in the startup script between the syslinux and login screens which I think said that it failed to load kernel modules (however it went by vast so I'm not exactly sure. Once I was logged in I tried "sudo systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service" and I got:

SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.

To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

P.S. sorry for all the individual post. It's just that each time I posted I realised that there is some more output that you may find useful and that was kind of a vicious circle. At least now I think we know what the problem is however I still don't know what needs to be done to solve it.

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

Since this appears to actually be a kernel problem as opposed to a networking one, perhaps this should be moved to kernel and hardware?

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

I have no idea what is wrong with your network card, but I just wanted to mention that when systemd tells you to check the output of "journalctl -xn", it is probably not telling you to check the output of the user journal.  So unless you are part of the "systemd-journal" group, you need to pass that command as the superuser.

If you want actual useful journal output as a normal user, do:

# gpasswd -a twoflower systemd-journal

Then of course you have to log out and lack in again for these settings to take effect.

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

dhcpcd@enp3s0.service is no longer a problem because after I connected my computer to a wired connection it randomly decided to start working. Unfortunately, systemd-modules-load.service is still at large. sad

Re: Failed to load kernel because driver won't build

Okay. So I was able to pinpoint the exact problem with why I cannot start systemd-modules-load.service. I went back to the output from sudo systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service and looked at the process number (I have already posted the output for this command above as can be seen if you use Ctrl-F) in the command journalctl -b _PID=x where "x" is the process number.

I got the following output:

Apr 02 22:42:34 arch systemd-modules-load[6007]: Failed to find module 'rt3090sta'

which is basically the exact reason why the kernel modules fails to load. I tried installing the file for rt3090 from the AUR but got:

==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
    Aborting...

So how do I fix this issue?

How do you expect anyone to tell you what went wrong when you only post that much of the output?
